Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has been using Kapidex (the timed release version of Prevacid).
My GI doc gave me a bunch of samples of Kapidex to try last week, in a 60 mg dosage.
I've been taking one a day in the morning before breakfast. I was hoping this would allow me to just take one pill a day, but it seems like the drug wears off after about eight hours. By the time I have dinner and during the night, I feel like I have more acid than usual. In looking at the literature, it seems the timed release happens in two stages. The first release is about an hour after taking it and the second is about four hours after taking it. I need something to control the acid 24 hours a day, so I'm not sure one pill a day is going to do the job.
My normal routine is to take 30 mg of Prevacid before breakfast and then another one at bedtime. It seemed like that was giving me better acid control around the clock than the 60 mg Kapidex.
I'm thinking maybe I should try taking Kapidex in a 30 mg size and take it twice a day the way I normally take Prevacid.
So far I feel like Kapidex has less of a punch than Prevacid. When I take a Prevacid, I feel like it really shuts things down in my stomach fairly quickly, while the Kapidex feels like there is less of a spike and it's a more gradual effect. After five days of the Kapidex I've gone back to Prevacid, but I'm wondering what other people's experience with Kapidex has been. I want to make sure I gave it a fair chance.
