I'm here. I've hadn't abandoned anybody.

I've just been battling my asthma. It's my worse allergy season. Not much energy to stay around much.

I've been reading some of the post, but my asthma has been limiting my time at the computer.

I'm still in limbo waiting my test on the 24th.

I'm on predisone for the asthma, it makes me feel weird (raises my blood sugar, messes with my thyroid). Thank goodness it's only for the week.

Been there, done that, Joy. My asthma was horrible for four years. I'm still struggling with allergies in spring and fall, but my asthma is much improved. Once my surgery allowed my lungs to heal, I haven't been on prednisone or needed my nebulizer (knock on wood!). I've come to the conclusion that my asthma problems were about 80% GERD and 20% allergies. Hopefully once you've had your surgery, your asthma won't be as severe when you have allergy problems. Are you nebulizing? That always worked better for me than an inhaler.

Believe me, I know how hard it is. I hope you can get feeling better before it's time for your pre-surgical testing. The last two or three years (before my Nissen surgery) my asthma doc was going to adjust my serum in November, but I was very sick each time due to uncontrolled asthma. I've got an appointment on Friday to be retested for allergies. My shots haven't been helping me as much for the past couple of years. I hope I can stay healthy (teaching isn't a great career for asthmatics!) so I can go forward on Friday with the allergy testing. Hopefully he can adjust my serum and I can start enjoying the outdoors again! I'm so sick of allergies! People without allergies don't know just how lucky they are!

I haven't been around much because school has been crazy--report cards, parent conferences, assessments, etc...Hopefully I'll have more time soon. Right now I'm about to do some more work on report cards. They're due tomorrow!

Hang in there Joy things will get better. I had my worse bought ever with asthma that resulted in hospitalization so I do know what it's like to be really bad. My allergies have been the worse ever this fall. It just in the last week improved so hang in there. I'll keep you in my prayers. Barb

I'm going to see my lung doctor today. Hopefully I'll get some relief after four nights in the lazyboy wheezing and gasping for air.

Well, I'm back from the doctor. I've got borderline pnumonia. Such fun.
I'm loaded up on Levoqin (sp?) and steroids.
If I'm not better in two days I have to go and get IVs at the hospital. $$$$$$$
I hope this doesn't affect my upcoming appointment with my surgeon.

Hi Joy,
I hope you get your asthma straightened around soon. Chances are you won't have to go to the hospital, but if you do here's a tip: The high IV steroid doses are likely to keep you wired. I wish I'd thought of asking for a sleeping aid when I was last hospitalized for asthma. I got no sleep and got worse daily due to exhaustion.

Just be sure to take your asthma seriously. I'm sure your doc has warned you to get in to the ER if your breathing gets worse. Hopefully the antibiotics and steroids will do the trick and get you turned around right away.

I called my surgeon. They said to give myself a couple of days on the steriods and anitbiotics and call them If I have to go into the hospital for IVs.
If so, I may have delay my tests.

I know how frustrating that is, Joy. I've had the same problem. Actually before my Nissen I had a lung infection that wasn't resolved. I was really worried it would keep me from having the surgery. I was cleared and had the surgery (it was a catch 22, since I was having the surgery because of my asthma, I couldn't really wait for it to get better to have the surgery) and continued to have horrible breathing issues afterwards. I had to have a nebulizer treatment just before the surgery, and was on a nebulizer and steroids during and after the surgery. (I had been on steroids so much that my docs gave me a burst of steroids for the surgery, since they were afraid that I had adrenal insufficiency.)

Hopefully you'll do just fine on the meds and come around in time for your testing. Maybe your EsophyX will solve some of your asthma problems. My Nissen surely did. What a difference.

Joy the IV steroids do make you really wired especially along with the nebulizer treatments. I asked for a sleeping pill the second night I was in the hospital as I did not sleep at all the first night. I had never had IV steroids or that many nebulizer treatments so did not know you could be that wired from it. Even if you go to the ER and then they let you go get a sleeping pill from them or you won't be sleeping at all that night. Take care and I hope you feel better soon. Barb

Went back to work today. Had some weak spells, due to the children stressing me out. They were just plain wild!
Still coughing, but wheezing is down to occasionally.

Surgeon called today to tell me what my bills will be for the pre-op and EGD. $75.00!

Hi Joy, glad to hear your back at work already. That's always a good sign. sorry the kids were such a handfull. That doesn't help when your not feeling very well. Hope you get lots of rest this weekend and are feeling better for work Monday. Barb

Feeling better today. Went to the store and fixing to get my hair cut. Feeling shaggy lately.

I was surprise at the price tag for the procedures, but then due to all of tests already ran this year I've met my deductions and then some.

Well, I can add a new drug allergy to my list.... Levaquin.
I woke up with little itchy bumps on my face this morning.
I decided not to take day six dose and took a Visteril left over from my last drug reaction.
I just pray I don't get edema like last time, that was scary!
If my hands start itching I'm going to the ER. That's what happen last time just before my face started swelling.
I can't win for losing!

Oh Joy, sorry to hear about that drug allergy. It makes it tough when it comes to treating infection. Hope you caught it before you get a big reaction. I always try to take an extra antihistimine when I start reacting to anything. Did you add that?

Joy, make sure you call the doctor tomorrow. Do you have any benedryl you can take? I know that helps with reactions. Please be careful and take care. Barb

Visteril was prescribed for me during the last drug reaction I had. It really helped with the itching and all.

 

Last time I had a horrible itchy rash all over my hands and crawling up my arms. I'd take a Visteril and the spots would slowly fade back down my arms. When it came close to time to take another dose the spots would start advancing up my arms again. Weird, huh? confused


I think I stopped the medicine in time. So far no bad itchy hands (just a faint itch once and awhile) and my spots on my face have faded some. No Edema! tongue

 

I'm so tired of these allergies! I wonder what I'll be able to take for the surgery? confused

I'm glad the visteril works for you. I hope they can find an antibiotic that you can take with out problems and that you have no problems during surgery and with meds after. Allergies to medications can be such a problem. I know when i have my hand surgery I will have to impress upon them not to clean my hand and arm with chloraprep or I will be ripping off the bandages the next day to itch it and clean it. The itching part is the worse when you have a reaction to meds. Yuck! Barb

I think that is what I am allergic to in the chloraprep they used on me. I never want that stuff on me again. I couldn't even sleep there was so much itching. Barb

I found out about it during my laser vision correction surgery last year. My eyes burned and itched for three days.
