This too will pass (LOL), Joy. Your GI tract has undergone a total revamp, and it'll take some time for it to adjust. Whenever my wrap/stomach gets inflamed and irritated, I get a similar problem, although recently I've had a long stretch (weeks) with no incidents.

Your stomach may be "dumping" at this point...anything you put into it goes right through. Whenever I hear the loud gurgles, that's what I find is happening, and I'm sure to have a bout of diarrhea or loose stools (again, TMI).

Fortunately as time goes on, that becomes less and less common, as your stomach adjusts. I have a super-reactive stomach, so it's even more sensitive, and any little thing can set it off. It's not a forever thing for you, so hang in there.

What you're experiencing is normal (although everybody's recovery is unique).
As time passes, things will improve for you.

Denise is right. Dumping is very common with this surgery. The GI tract is kinda pissed off right now.

Joy, did you get any anti nausea meds? If not please do. I once again didn't heed my own warning and got caught without them last weekend. Dry heaves are no fun, but even worse when you are still healing from surgery.

I used Imodium AD when I needed to also.

You got a large bottle? Lucky! They only gave me 10 tablets. I go for my postop appt tomorrow morning. I have tons of questions. Hopefully your belly settles down soon!

Eww! I think taking it would make me more nauseous. lol As long as it works I guess.

I'm with Michelle...EWW! I have been using Phenegran for about 3 years or so and it usally works pretty well and is a small tablet that's easy to swallow. I get 20 at a time with my prescription. I only have one refill left, go to remember to ask for another one soon.

Some of the problems we wrapped people have is that out stomachs are smaller and our meals are smaller. This all adds up to our stomachs emptying too soon for digestion of the starches to be as complete as they should be. We can even feel our stomachs empting after an hour or two max. As Denise said above, this early emptying is called dumping. The undigested starches end up in the large intestine where the bacteria become very happy that we have fed them and make gas to show their appreciation. Google gastric dumping. Wiki has a simple explanation.

Stopping eating all gas producing food (starches) is a temporary fix. I got in trouble with vitamin K shortage leading to bruising and nosebleeds! I still can't eat broccoli, but at least tolerate a bit of spinach now. Legumes and cruciferous veggies are off my menu for the forseeable future.

I am investigating whether adding digestive enzymes might help. They are often prescribed for old people with digestive problems similar to what we are experiencing. If anyone reading this post knows more about this, please chime in!

I'm happy with the small stomach too. I'm happy with not needing Nexium, not having reflux, not having pain from my GPEH, much less tachycardia, being able to eat some foods that I could not tolerate previously ...
I'm willing to put up with gas, scars (mine are right along the bottom of the rib cage), the pain from the radial artery sticks ...
Things are much better for the new year despite a few new complications.

I have not lost any weight since the op. I didn't even lose anything while eating only clear liquids! I put on 10 pounds over the holidays and will have to get back to WW for encouragement to lose them again. Filling up fast and then eating every 2 hours equals out. I'm glad you lost because it will help with the pre-D.
