Going for my first endoscopy on Thursday!

I was out cold. Last thing I remember was them spraying the back of my throat to numb it. You might have a little sore throat after. I slept pretty much the rest of the on and off. You can drink right away if you want.

The sedation works like a charm so know you will be OK. Take a big breath and know that by tomorrow evening this will all be history.

You"ll be fine,they spray the back of your throat(yuk!)about 2 min after that they give you a feel good drug and the next thing you know your in recovery,I had this done on Jan. 25th.

You will laugh after at how easy it was. I have a very strong gag reflex and have had 2 scopes with NO problems. I had a Slight sore throat as the Doc did a biopsy, other than that it was easy. Let your Doc know you are unsure of the procedure and he should be able to put your mind at ease. It doesn't take long and you are back to your old self shortly after. Well, I'm happy to report it's all over now!
I was shaking like a leaf when they took me back and crying too! I'm such a baby. They told me to put on a gown (over my clothes) and the nurse started an IV saline drip.
A few minutes later, they rolled me into the procedure room and put an oxygen cannula on my nose. They told me to roll on my side and the tech put a mouth guard in my mouth -- that is the last thing I remember.
Next thing I knew, they were waking me up. ALL DONE, THANK GOD! It only took me a few minutes took wake up -- they said I was smiling when I woke up but I don't even remember that.
After a few minutes, they told me to sit up and then slowly stand up. I was fine. A little wobbly, but fine. I was feeling great (probably lasting effects from the sedative).
My doctor met my mom and I in a separate waiting room to go over the results. He said that I had some redness and irritation but nothing serious. AGAIN THANK GOD! He took some biopsies just as a precautionary measure. He assured me that he does this for all endoscopies.
I'm still feeling a bit woozy, but not bad at all. I do have some stomach discomfort -- a kind of gassy feeling. This is probably from the air that gets pumped into your stomach during the procedure. I'm also a little sore; which is probably from the biopsies, otherwise everything is A-OK! Thanks for all your positive posts. I am grateful for the forum and glad to post this for others who may be facing this procedure in the future!
