If you loose 20 lbs, I guarantee it will help without a doubt. Sad to say, but allot of people with gerd are overweight. Some are not, but allot are. There have been articles writen, saying that if someone who needed it lose the 20lbs, they could aviod stuff like surgery. ect. Remember less that 1% of gerd suffers actually need surgey. With gerd its own you. You have to be the one to loose weight, watch your diet, and eay healthy things, take your medicine, and listen to the doctor. My lungs were crystal clear and I had- have MAJOR breathing problem. Sleep in a recliner for a couple months. If it goes away thats your problem. Sorry but the bed blocks dont do crap. I think I might do a study on this, cause I have allot of evidence to prove it."
This comment above was not made to offend anyone. As listed in the rules here, my post's are all opinions and any medical advice should be talked about between you and your doctor. My comment of saying losing weight would guarantee it would "help", is the same as the other members comment above mine. It is true that it could help, and there is nothing wrong with stating this fact, as many members have. And there have been artices writen about this, I was just using that as a refrece. Also, I did not say all GERD suffers are over weight. I said allot of people are. That does not mean 1/4, 1/2, 7/8, 1/100, i just said allot. I also said that some are not. The 1% of people actually need surgey is acutally stretching the fact as its really allot less than that. I also stated that you had to be the one to "listen to your doctor, with gerd its on you, eat healthy ect... I think these are all good things to say on this form. I also suggested the recliner, which had worked for many people to see if that eliminates there nighttime GERD. I never stated that any of my suggestions were sure cures at any time. Just like other memebers I am suggesting simple things that in my opinon may help other people, just like any other member on here.
This memeber had asked a question about if weight loss would help, and besides one other member, I think I was the only one to asnwer it. They said they needed help, becaue of insurance reasons, and diet, weight loss, eating habits, ect.. are the only things you can do really besides medicine or surgery.
Plus, this was a guy the same age as me asking a question. I thought I could relate. I had GERD so bad this past summer I was in the hosptial more than 5 times. My lungs were so bad, I could barley breathe, I coughed all day long, mucus, everything. Had the worst chest, gerd, stomach pains you wouldnt believe. Was so sick the one time, I had a reaction to the medicine, which spike my BP, and had a heart rate of near 200 in the ER for over an hour, thought I was dead. I was overweight at the time, from being depressed from gerd, witch made me lazy, eat more, and not exerice or have any hope of getting better.
Then I had a couple family members modivate me. I went on a sticter diet, starting eating healthy, sleeping in a recliner, and exercising through all the pain. In 5 months, not I am extremly fit, and my GERD symptons have improved by 50%. I still have breathing issues, but they are getting better. I still might have to get GERD surgey anyways, despite the weigh loss, ect. Like I said all I said is that it will help. In the summer I could barley get up the steps. Now on a good day I can run 5 miles no problem.
I think me stating my suggestions is fair, and if it really does offend people I will stop posting on this form. I never offered sure cures, and It seems like when any one mentions weight loss on here, someone gets upset. I am not trying to offened anyone, nor did I ever say a specific member was overweight at anytime. All I was doing was stating my opinion, which is actually a suggestion on almost any GERD site, or medical book. Plus weight loss does not mean people are big or anything. It more means, doing things like eating healthy, exercising to help stress, following a diet, which are things that could potential help GERD.
Sorry if anyone found the earlier post offensive, but I was only trying to help and support.
