I'm so glad I found this thread. I had no idea what was going on! What a bizarre symptom. I also was starting to worry that it was some neurology thing cause what the heck else would cause strange sensations like this?
This is how it's played out for me:
- was on 20mg pantoprazole daily (in my 5th month) but was still having to clear my throat a lot and every little food seemed to bother me so I thought maybe going on 40mg might help
- was on 40mg for 7 days and noticed no difference (odd in itself) however on day 2 of the increased dose, I started getting the minty feeling.
- minty feeling getting worse/spreading. Now I feel it all over my body. It's still a mild sensation but it's making me feel cold all over. It's been 3 days seen I've been off the 40s and back on the 20s.
I'm a bit scared to try the vinegar/baking soda diluted in water thing as I can't even have a splash of juice in a glass of water but I'm curious if it would at least get rid of the mint thing for a bit.
*UPDATE*
With the theory that I might be "too alkaline" now and maybe I need to reduce the PPIs, I tried skipping a dose. It was a lot easier than when I tried to skip a dose several months back. I still had some burning and discomfort but it wasn't too horrible. The interesting thing is after I skipped the dose, the menthol feeling was reduced in intensity. I'll keep testing this out. I'm going to try 3 days on, and 1 day off the PPI (which is about
a 25% reduction in the amount of PPI a week). If I skip more frequently the side effects become overly distracting, at least at this point in time.
