hi my name is Scott I am 30yrs old

I was diagnosed with GERD around two years ago. I was prescribed 20mg lanzoprazole 1 daily I thought great I just need to take these tablets and get on with my life. "jeez was I wrong" I never thought it would lead to hospital visits I have had a colonoscopy had 2 polyps removed and now next month i go back into hospital for a Gastroscopy. so for about the past 9-10 months the back of my throat has been swelling up pretty
badly sometimes lasting as long as 2weeks and then it would just disappear. I have tried monitoring what might be causing this swelling in the back of my throat and it always is triggered by alcohol I am at a loss as to why it might be triggering the swelling and so is my GP. this now leaves me with this possibility of something more serious IE barrettes. hatious hernia. I also realize perhaps Its not serious and just need the dose of my medication increased last year i had full blood work done and came back negative on anything serious but it did find I was borderline
iron deficient probably due to the PPI but no action taken by my GP i ignored it and listed to the doctor but recently i have had a sore tongue the side of my tongue is sore and looking a little of colour ive recently discovered that even borderline iron deficiency can present symptoms.

here in great Britain there is no support at all for GERD sufferers everything i have found out to date has been from the internet and have had virtually no advice from my GP if I am lucky enough to see the same one

so should I be worried about the swelling in my throat?

It could possibly be side effects from your meds,Ive been on Prevacid for over 2 years and have had many different ailments,my biggest was numbness on the left side of my forehead and the top of my head,It would come and go this lasted for months,the doctors couldn't figure it out so i had a mri,it was clean,so only thing i could think that it might be was from the meds,im seriously looking at surgery down the road,i hope this helps you.

My lips swell from alcohol, so it could be an allergy????

It could just be the acid buring your throat, I've had the same thing and have severe GERD to the point sometimes where I can't even swallow.

hi new to this forum i have had this acid problem for about 2 years now and for some reason tonight acid is coming up my throat and burning really bad making me choke and its really making me nervous i am having trouble breathing anyone else have this so bad

Not that bad. Try drinking some liquid antacid. If you don't have any on hand try a spoonful of baking soda in 4oz of water.

Sleep tonight in a recliner or elevated bed to ease the flow. Then see your GI or Doctor for stronger meds as soon as possible.
