I am 1 1/2 year post Nissen and for about
the last six months have had the GERD symptoms back in full force. I have tried meds to help but nothing does. I went back to my surgeon last week and he thinks it may be my gall bladder rather than GERD. He said the symptoms are sometimes the same. I wasn't sure if anyone had ever heard of this or not. I am scheduled for a HIDA Scan next week and a 24 hour ph manometry(totally dreading that one). Just curious if that could really be it or if it is more likely that my wrap is no longer working. Thanks for your help!!!

You're doing a ph test and a manometry? Ouch!
This sounds like he's double checking for trouble with the nissen, too. Better safe than sorry I guess. Is he doing a EGD, too?

No, no EGD. I asked about
that and he said the PH test would give him more accurate details. I hated the manometry the first time around and am totally dreading having it again.

It is rough. If I was in despair I'd go through it again, but I must be in horrible shape.
They didn't tell me what it involved beforehand. They just said be here at this time and don't eat or drink before.

Hi donut9. I have just come out of hospital after having a blocked common duct from a gallstone. I was having frequent attacks of what I thought were reflux then I would vomit. I was trying to eat an akaline diet take probiotics and sliperly elm and digestive enzymes to help my reflux and none of it was working. Last monday I was in the doctors crying with pain and wondering about
my sanity. They did a blood test and my pancreatic function had jumped from 63 to 994 so they sent me straight to hospital and I had to have an ERCP to have the blocking stone removed. The ultrsound scan revealed a gallbladder literally packed with stones so it has to come out too. I have suffered reflux like symptoms for the last 5 years and they have gotten progressively worse to the point where no drugs worked and I was vomiting almost daily. I lost 7 kilos in the space of 4 weeks and am so weak now that just getting up to have a shower wipes me out. Definately get them to check the gallbladder possibility if I had had this done way back at the beginning I wouldn't have had to waste so much time and money investigating reflux.
good luck

I had my gall bladder tested before I had the nissen to rule that out so I'm guessing that it can cause the same symptoms.
