I am one week out from my nissen. The first night in the hospital I had severe nausea and had violent dry heaves. It was a horrible 8 hours. Finally they got the nausea under control and I have improved a little bit each day. I don't have too much gas pain now. I did for the first few days. The incision where they did most of the work is pretty sore but over all, I am getting around really well.
My doctor belives in starting regular food on day 2 after surgery. I take very small bites and try to eat slowly. I do find I am getting very full very early while eating. I have lost about 5 pounds. I am finding I eat about every 2 1/2 hours or I get very hungry and start to feel a little nausea. I am still tired but am getting stir crazy sitting around. I walk on my treadmill about 10-15 minutes at a very slow pace and that seems to help with boredom and makes me feel a little more revived.
I love soda so am wondering when or if I will be able to have that again. I haven't eaten a lot of things that would normally cause me discomfort. I did have orange juice the other day and didn't have any burning. I haven't been able to drink OJ for years!! So I am optimistic that this is going to be a great solution for me. I will post again later to update my status.
