1 day after fundo

So for all those who are considering fundo or just did one, i had mine yesterday. heres what i know so far. the shoulder pain many talk about is real. it hurts. a bit better when you get up and move. stomach really hurts, . no trouble swallowing pills. I was on clear liquids yesterday and full liquids today. as far as the reason we did it constant throat clearing and mucous in throat its all still here. I do wonder if wrap is tight enough. I have not had a bowel movement in 2 days. all in all it has not been as tough as i thought but frustrated my atypical symptoms are still here but they sometimes do not go away. coughing really hurts. doc said i can eat potatoes, meatloaf but im holding off for now. id be curious for those long term members of the wrapped club did it take a while for the throat clearing and mucous feeling to go away. im impatient but will give it 3 months..the surgeon agreed, and then we will run tests to see if its tight enough. he was confident it was. i still have to cough up mucous and boy that hurts. It hurts but for those of you considering it i have no regrets and my surgeon is gifted but has only done 100 at most, but he says he uses a tube or something that measures the tightness so the get it too right. my wife says im the only person who complains of not having more side effects :) i figure if my symptoms dont improve we will evaluate and then if i need a redo so be it. my surgeon did say he would have someone else do it though as he does not really do redos(not many) that is the risk i took with less experience. so if you need the fundo and are suffering for me its worth a shot. I trust this surgeon, but again knew he was conservative and even told him tight, but not too tight. maybe should have went with more experience, but that office said you can drive and be back to normal in a day. thats why i went somewhere else. i can assure you it hurts, but for long time sufferers and all the tests weve done..you can do it..just dont think youll be yourself after a day. good luck to all and if you think your fundo is too tight have them check it out..we can redo it. but i am waiting and figure 50% better would be okay with me.

Be patient with the coughing. It will fade. Hold a small pillow on your stomach when you cough, it will ease it some.

Hey Joe,

Glad to hear you made it through the surgery and now comes the tough part - being patient and not expecting to much to soon.  You are only on Post Op Day One. Try not to get stuck in the "what if"  thinking and just give yourself plenty of time to heal.

Congratulations on your induction into the "Wrapped Club!"

Whoa! You're one day post-op. It's a great surgery for those of us who need it, but it's not magic! Those inflamed tissues will take weeks to heal...give yourself time, and don't expect miracles.

I was also one of those people having the surgery for "atypical symptoms"...mine involved uncontrolled asthma due to constantly irritated lungs.

It took my lungs about two and a half months to recover after the surgery. Coughing? I coughed my guts out, as I had a lung infection before, during, and after surgery. The incision that hurt the most was the one on the left near the ribs. It kept getting irritated each time I coughed.

Have faith, my friend. Your symptoms will subside. You will be helped by the surgery, but it takes some time. You didn't get that bad in a day, and it'll take more than a day to heal.

The tube thing your surgeon talked about is a "bougie"--and it allows the surgeon to measure the size of the opening, so it isn't too tight. If you can burp, hurray! As your wife said, don't complain that you aren't bloated and miserable. That does not mean that your wrap is a failure. Give it a chance.

Trust me, we've all been there--second guessing and worrying about every symptom. Keep walking to help your shoulder pain. The more you walk, the better it will feel.

Welcome to the "wrapped club". Take it very easy and you better start knocking on some serious wood my friend . talking bad about no side effects could be a bad thing LOL!

hi guys, actually i have no trouble swallowing..i mean none so i worry he did not get it tight enough. i have had trouble going the bathroom. needed 2 laxatives. stomach feels very upset. rumbly and when i go it runs out. stomach pain is miserable and the sounds inside my stomach sound funny

denise, so all the throat irritation and coughing got better. for me i put all my hope in this..my throat is causing misery i owed it to my family to get better. i just pray my throat and mucous heals. thanks for your help

Your stomach was just horribly abused. Of course it still hurts!

The type of laxative could be giving you the rumblies (gas). Bisacodyl will do that. I was given liquid senna and had no particular problem, other than we all have more gas now because even if you can burp, it doesn't ALL come up anymore. You may also just be using too much laxative. You might try Miralax. It just mixes with any liquid and doesn't taste too bad.

Yes, Joe, I did stop coughing.
After 2 and a half months of coughing nonstop post surgery (I'd had a lung infection for the month before, during, and after surgery--also my asthma was uncontrolled for four years prior to surgery) Anyway after 2 and a half months, my lungs finally healed, and I had healthy lungs again.

Now, I do have allergies, so do have sinus and asthma flare-ups due to those, but nothing like I went through prior to surgery. The surgery was a success, and my lungs were greatly improved.

Give yourself time to heal.

Hi Joe,
Hope you're relaxing and worry free. Just let the healing do its work, sit back and enjoy the ride. It's a challenging healing process at times, but if you can accept each challenge as it comes and follow along, you'll do just fine.
