barium swallow shows esophghitis

had barium swallow tech said it looks like esophgoghitis..she aske me i i had this before.this is after nissen and ppis. she said she cant say anything else until end of day once they type evrything up

joe,  Where I come from,  techs are not allowed to guess or interprut any tests.  Do wait for the final report.

Also may I kindly request that you start one thread and keep all your post-op questions in the same thread as it makes it so much easier to look back at your progress and see the big picture all in one thread.  Many of the members do this as they progress through the post-op healing period. :-)

will do, sorry about that. waiting to hear from actual dr., but nurse said persistent mild reflux

I'd be very interested toread how esophagitis or any irritation can be diagnosed with barium swallow. The reflux though, I would believe.

But I also wonder how my GI could say my wrap is just fine from only an endo.

alcie is the reflux then part of it, doc said there would be reflux after surgery and the surgery only returns it to normal, he said he could stop it all if i wanted but id never eat again. i guess i expected no reflux. also, he said the wrap only reinforces the les rom opening too much, but technically it still can close shut at times on its own. i never heard that before, is that true.. if so i cant see us wrapped folks getting worse, maybe the same but worse. i guess i just dont get it

I would guess that the valve could still close if it wasn't completely wrecked in the first place. But your doc is right. You don't want the wrap so tight that you can't swallow past it. If the valve doesn't work at all you could still get reflux because the wrap only tightens, doesn't have any valve functioning ability.

A lot of us still need PPIs after surgery. But we're still better off than we were before surgery. At least we don't have constant food and acid coming up and causing irritation and pain.

I still don't understand how they saw esophagitis on a barium swallow. Did they do an endoscopy also?
