Hi All You Post Thanksgiving Sleepy Friends!
We had a great day. It was mostly my DIL's family, but my other son and his girlfriend came late, and of course the star of the show was our little baby!

Thanks, Kitt, for telling me about the "refresh" fix for the wide screen problem. I wonder why that's happening. Did you report it to Peter? I'm sure we aren't the only ones with the problem.

Barb, I'm glad to hear you were able to reschedule Bella's visit. What fun you'll have. I hope you find a willing driver for your pick-up, and that the weather is beautiful that day!

I've got our tree up. It's artificial, since I can't handle the pollens that are released when a real tree dries out. I've used artificial for probably 20 years. We got a new one this year, since we're starting fresh, and our other tree was starting to break up. We're going to start decorating today. What fun! I've been dying to get started, since it's a new house--a blank canvass. I had a decorating routine with our old house--I put everything up in a particular way. Now I get to design our decorations in a brand-new way!

Joy, I'm glad you found out what's causing you pain. I'm a big believer of physical therapy. I had a herniated disk, and although many go for surgery, I went right to PT and had great results. They also helped me after my foot surgery, and whenever I get back pain, I head back for more.

Denise, have you've ever had siactica in your feet? I think I'm having it. It feels like stepping on rocks with a tingling running all over the bottom of my foot. It's not all of the time, but I never know when it will hit. I guess I'll tell the back doctor on Thursday when I head back to PT. Sigh!

Hi Joy,
That sounds like arthritis to me. Sometimes the calcification hits on a nerve, and it sends those strange feelings radiating out. It's just a thought. I'm sure the PT will have some ideas of how to help you.

Good Morning Everyone,

Denise,  I did not report the wide screen just yet as he has been ill and I am trying to let him heal and start to feel better.  I will if it continue to be a problem.  :)

 

Your tree sounds lovely.  We have a really big artificial tree also but as we  now go to our children's homes and my in-laws over the holidays we only put up a small tree.  Our house is very small and the tree dwarfs our living room.  mad .  I did find my Christmas Cards so will work on those this coming weekend.

The most common symptom of sciatica is the pain in lower leg, posterior thigh, and foot. Although sciatica pain occurs in the buttocks region, true sciatica is marked by radiating pain beyond knee. Patients with a history of sciatica suffer intense pain in their legs.  Although no particular motion or event can be associated with Sciatica Foot Pain; standing, heavy lifting, bowel movements, sneezing, or sitting have been found to aggravate the pain. Lying down for a while is the most effective way to ease such types of pain.

Crazy isn't it ? I would talk with your Dr. re the foot pain as it may be, as Denise said, related to arthritis.

Your "refresh" trick works perfectly. I wonder if others are having the problem. It makes it impossible to read all the posts when they continue beyond the edge of the screen!

I'm going to go all out with decorating as long as I can handle it. Last year we were in an apartment, so we didn't even have a tree, so this year is extra fun. Also, it's the first time in 25 years that I don't have to juggle teaching responsibilities with trying to get decorating done, so it's great to be able to focus on it without worrying about what I have to do for work. I have a Santa collection, so Santas are everywhere! When our little one starts cruising, I'll have to buy him a bunch of Santa toys to try to distract him from grabbing the decorations! We shall see how that goes!

I'm looking forward to making cookies and candy this year, too! It's going to be fun!

Tomorrow I go off my Protonix in preparation for my 24hr PH monitor. It'll be interesting to see how my stomach reacts. It's very sensitive, and it has been complaining lately.

I posted in the Mod Forum re the wide screen effect and 5 other Moderators posted after me that they had same problem.  Peter will read the post in there so I know he will look into it.  We need the "full screen" version - ROFLO

I bet you are excited to be decorating you new home and having your new grandchild with you this year.  What a Wonderful Christmas :-)

My adult children and my granddaughters all like to make the cut out cookies yet and they loved to frost them.  It is always a contest to see who can come up with the wildest looking cookie. 

I hope the ph monitoring gives you the answers you are looking for.

Thanks guys. I'm just getting so aggrevated with everything. I feel like a walking disaster lately. Today, thanks to the bad weather coming in, Everything hurt! Back, left leg, shoulder, and right foot. :P
I'm have some tummy issues too. Probably from the painkiller. Sigh!

Hang in there! Weather changes definitely affect arthritis--I have it in my hands, feet, and back (elsewhere too, I'm sure) and I can definitely feel its ebb and flow.
Your cheery first graders (who will be jumping out of the skin with excitement as Christmas nears) will help to keep your mind off your aches and pains. Until then, hopefully your PT specialist can give you some exercises and work on reducing pains at your visits. If you need a new script to include your new maladies, get one ASAP!

Thanks for posting about the wide screen issue. At least the refresh works to return it to normal. How did you ever figure that one out? I never even thought of it!

I bought some more cookie cutters because I couldn't find the ones we grew up with. Then today, YAY! I found them. It's always fun to get cookies cut out into shapes that were the same ones you had as a child. When I gave my DIL a baby shower, we did cutout baby shape cookies (carriage, bottle, rattle, etc.) and my son and his girlfriend came and helped frost them. It was great fun, and hopefully they'll be able to find the time to come and frost again! My sons have fond memories of my mother, who always did those things with her grandchildren. I think it will bring back those memories, and start new traditions as well.

How I hate to admit this but Saturday when I was going downstairs I missed the last step and down I went flat on my face, banged my knee and then called for my hubby as I wanted to be sure I had not cracked anything.  I landed on carpet.

It is driving me up a wall to find out I am so uncordinated ~ however my husband said to slow down and not try to run down stairs with my arms full.  shocked He is sometimes wise so I am going to slow down and make sure I pick my feet up.  Argh.  Only thing hurt was my knee and my pride. 

I got off easy while you face so much and never lose your sense of humor.  You rock my friend.

Oh my gosh, cookie cutters in baby shapes, how fun.  I found the refresh works when some sites are loading slow and so I just tried it on HW when the screen went wacky and it worked.  What I really hate is when I have written a long post and then hit a wrong key and my post goes up in thin air.  devil

I inherited all my Mom's cookie cutters so I have some unique ones that you cannot buy anymore.  I love the old metal ones versus the new plastic cutters.

Joy, I have sciatica; the pain most always runs from your low back, down your butt, your leg and if it's a really good job, into your feet. I do not get walking on rocks, it's pain and you can trace it down from your back.
Plantar facitis (sp) feels like a broken bone in your foot (Tom has this); if you don't walk, it doesn't hurt..it normally starts in your heel, like you bruised it or something.
Arthritis?, Kitt may have something there.

Denise...I watching out for you, praying and keeping you in my thoughts, always!

Kitt, the whole falling thing?..yeah, try not to do that, Joy just messed herself up good with that, and we think, we think..., that this played a role in a whole host of things for me since then. Watch your memory and all concussions symptoms. Be careful sweet lady; we all love you and would be lost without you.

Me..dmn headaches...seeing a new oncologist on Tuesday, family dr about possible consult with spine surgeon and the big one, my reconstruction surgeon in 2 weeks, to discuss big surgery in Late January or February, I think. Pain is first and foremost with this thing and long recovery..8 to 10 weeks before you can start your 1 year countdown till all is all good. (oh, and let's not forget about the dmn shoulder...dmn dmn dmn

In the meantime, my Christmas shopping is DONE< DONE< DONE!!! Retirement on the 29th, my sweet niece, my nephews girlfriend are going to be here with us this weekend. Some shopping, nails done, Christmas tree up and games are in order...after one of Aunt Janices "famous" meals. Looking forward to GOOD STUFF!

Ouch, Kitt! I've fallen up stairs before but never down. You're luck you didn't break your neck!
MMMMMM, cookies! I've got to convince my father to make his famous pecan & chocolate chip cookies this Christmas. Our family flips over his recipe. He makes a killer sugar free apple pie, too.
I see the back specialist on Thursday and I'll find out if it's siactica or he may send me back to the orthropedic specialist. I told the OS about the foot pain, but he seem to be focused more on my shoulder and my arthritic knee. It feels swollen tonight. (frustrated sigh!)
It just seems like everything is coming on me sudden and doesn't want to stop.

Morning All,

Janice,  I need to slow down and remember I am not 40 anymore.  I am doing fine other then my knee hurts and I have to remember when I am on the floor playing with my dog not to try to get up using my left knee.

Hi Kitt, Denise, Joy, Janice and Bill where ever you are. I have been so busy with all our organizing at our house. We are trying to get stuff we use on a daily basis up higher so I don't have to bend over as it really causes pain issues with my back. It's been acting up the last couple of nights. I think I need an adjustment but can't afford it at this time. We have had a bunch of unexpected bills. And I have to make sure I have gas money for our trip down to get Bella. I am still not done with our scrapbook room but it is really looking awesome. I need 2 more shelves put up in the closet. I have 2 sets of shelves and the tables to clean off and organize yet in there. We have also been working on the kitchen and living room. We decided tonight we need to finish the scrapbook room and get the other 2 bedrooms in order for our guests that will be arriving in late December. We have a real houseful with the 3 kids and 2 added adults. I'm glad Bella is coming before so we can spend some special time with her. When her brothers arrive her dad is going to go do something with her while we spend time with the boys and their mom. She is very excited about being able to scrapbook with us. We are going to work on the boys albums and one for my son. It seems like there is so much to do and so little time. We'll have to pace ourselves I guess. I'm still trying to catch up on the lost sleep from Thanksgiving weekend. In between now and them coming is my birthday too. We always have a party for that. Tomorrow I have my work Christmas party.

I'm glad every one had a nice Thanksgiving. I was thinking about all of you even though I wasn't on line. Well I am off to bed. Have a great night all. Barb

Hi Y'all-
I hate the first snow storm of the year! seems like everyone forgets how to drive in it.
Anyway, I get to do the EGD and colonoscopy thing Friday and next Monday. My doctor won't do them all at once anymore because of billing issues, so I get the colonoscopy Friday and the EGD Monday.
I didn't get all the leaves burned before it rained and then winds blew and then the snow flew, so I have huge piles of frozen snowed on leaves. Great! Another fall project that didn't get done. Well it will just have to wait for a January thaw or Spring now LOL! Some of the vehicle maintenance I needed to get done on mine and mom;s cars didn't get done because I was too busy doing it to other peoples vehicles. made a little money, but really made the nerve in my ribs angry, so I had to get more injections yesterday.
So that's been my fall in a nuts shell besides moving and all the VA doctor appointments and such....

Hi Bill and Friends,
No kidding! I had my manometry, EGD, and PH monitor wire placed this morning. A trip that takes 20 minutes, took 2 hours because of the snow! We were a half hour late (left in plenty of time to get there early, to take the snow into account, but had no idea how bad it would be!) They didn't mind, though...everyone else was late, too.

Ouch. Having all three esophagus irritating procedures in one swoop might not have been the best idea ever. I've had the PH monitor two other times, and didn't get the discomfort I'm having this time. Every time I swallow, I get a spasm, and get some in between swallows. I've got a jazzy probe in, with multiple receptors, and I guess it also can measure movement.

Of course, I agreed to be part of an esophageal study, so they took 10 extra biopsies and a vial of blood--maybe the extra biopsies might be part of it, but my guess is that they totally irritated things with the manometry and endoscopy, so the poor little thing doesn't know what hit it. I'm making a lot of saliva, too.

The protocol is totally different for this one. I have to lay completely flat tonight (couch, here I come...not taking the risers off the bed--too much trouble!)

I have to say one thing...for all the problems I've had, I am not having really any heartburn minus meds, which leads me to believe that the old wrap may be working better than I had imagined. From what I heard from the nurse after the EGD, there was nothing bad found there, although the results will have to wait until Dec. 17, when I see the surgeon.

Well, I'd better go do some "normal activities" and challenge my wrap with some bending, etc.

That's what I figured, Joy. Actually I'm not really enjoying the thought of dinner, since whenever I swallow I get a spasm. I feel like I'm back recovering from my surgery...even getting the excessive saliva. I think I'd separate the procedures next time, for the sake of my poor esophagus!

I sure hate how that wire irritates everything everytime you swallow. I imagine it would be very similar to your esophagus as it was healing from the Nissen. It's been severely irritated and doesn't like it. I hole they get it figured out for you soon.
Looks like we have more snow heading our way Friday and Saturday, but we are supposed to get some ice first on Thursday. Oh the joys of winter.

bOY WE ARE ALL GOING THRHOUGH SOME TOUGH TIMES. mY i HOPE BETWEEN ALL THESE DOCTORS AND TESTS THEY CAN GET THO THE HEART OF THE PROBLEM AND CURE IT OR AT LEAST FIND SOME TREATMENT TO HELP WITH IT. I'LL KEEP PRAYING FOR THAT MIRACLE FOR ALL OF US.GOD WORKS IN HIS ON TIME AND HIS OWN WAY. OH WELL OFF TO BED. bARB

I hope everyone is recovering from your problems and accidents.

Denise I hope your testing is going well.   I kind of know what your going through I had all my three tests done the same day too.   Not very fun.   I had trouble eating with the wire too.    Hope its soon over for you.

I am still worried about my surgery failing.     It will be 7 weeks.    Still have this burning tongue and nose, but I dont think its as bad.     I kind of have this post nasal drip feeling, but cant decide if its reflux or nasal drip.    This cant be another failed surgery that would be crazy.   I am driving my husband nuts, and myself too.

I have been to my reg. doc and he gave me meds for yeast as I had a white tongue.  I took alot of antibiotics before my surgery.    I am now having a problem with my ear.  I have an appt. today with the same doc.   Although he wants me to make an appt. with an ENT I cant get into that doc until the 28th.   Thats not very soon.   So need the reg. doc to look at my ear.

Its been 6 weeks since I stopped taking the protonix.   Has anyone experienced acid rebound and if so how long did it last.   I have read on different sites that it could last up to 3 months.

I will need to call my surgeon in a couple days as I was to call after a month since my last appt.   They wanted me to come to the office but an hour and half and the roads arent the best here.    We are getting snow too. 

Sorry about writing a book.

Found out today I've got Plantar fasciitis in my foot.
The moment the doctor mashed a certain place on my foot I let out a yelp he seemed to know exactly what it was. It seems many teachers suffer from it. My weight plays a big part in it too. Shoot! Another diet. Grrrrr!

My daughter-in-law is a PA, and she said the best thing to do for the pain is roll a can of frozen OJ under the foot. They have special equipment to help your foot...check it out at Foot Smart. They have everything for feet, and on the left menu you'll find Plantar Faciitis. I have a friend who has it and got orthotics. They help her a lot, but she has to wear them all the time. I think orthotics are a good bet.

By the way...
I'm waiting until next Friday when I see the surgeon who did all the tests on me, but honestly, during the entire week I did not take Protonix, I had no reflux at all. I'm tempted to drop it right now, but decided that I'd better wait and see what he says. I will be very interested to hear what he found out.

I am second guessing myself constantly, so I've got to just quit imagining what he saw and wait to hear it for myself.

My throat and esophagus are beginning to heal, but still feel pretty raw.

They put me out this time, although I said "light sedation" I don't remember a thing. I think that they wanted me out, because they had a room full of med students and i was the guinea pig for their instruction.

This is the first time I ever had a sore throat or any other discomfort after the EGD, but to be fair, I had a manometry first, the EGD second, and the PH monitor...not a good idea.
