odds of barrets -> cancer

Hi all,

I am just curious to find real info regarding the odds of Barret's becoming esophageal cancer

I saw one poster say that only 10-15% of Barrets become cancerous. I read in an article the odds are 1% per year.

Since I am 27, I figure if I had Barrets (which I didn't during my last endoscopy), at a 1% chance of getting it per year, I would have a 50% chance of it turning cancerous before I turned 70...

Does anyone have any reliable statistics on this? are they out there?

Sorry, I don't understand. what is very easy to cure? how so?

I still have Barretts and am now starting to look into the process of having it removed. Someone here has had it ablated though. I forget who it was. I believe they had 2 or 3 treatments and was told their barretts was completely gone.

Ps. BMcD had the ablation for Barretts and was confirmed barretts free by biopsy after one treatment.

I have Barrets, you need to have it checked. The Mayo clinic got rid of mine. With an ablation treatment.

I just read an article that stated the rate of cancer development is 0.5% per year.  I would encourage you to talk with your physician re the variations in %.

Sometimes we get incorrect info from the internet.  I am glad to see you had good response to your question.
