I just registered here and it is 2 in the morning. I'm still awake because I'm afraid to sleep or even lie down and it's been like this for a while. I usually end up falling asleep from extreme sleepiness later on but I'm worried about
choking during sleep.
On 12th of dec 2009 right after contracting the H1N1 and what seemed like a quick full recovery from it, I suddenly choked on a piece of apple skin and went to the ER. Nothing happened, oxygen levels were normal and they kind of put me on probation before I was sent home. I thought it was just one of those coincidences in life, but the next few days I started having breathing problems just randomly put of the blue. I felt like there was a gas ball trapped in my neck or somewhere close and it wouldn't come out. I remember how I thought I wasnt going to live through the night of Christmas eve 2009, I had very very severe breathing problems by then.
I went to different physicians and most of them couldn't diagnose anything. Some said it was psychological which was bull and finally things started to point into the stomach direction, because I assumed it was a lung/throat problem until I heard about
GERD.
I was and am suffering daily from a sticky throat full of clear sticky saliva, frequent episodes of poor breathing but if I can first spit the sticky stuff out I can then swallow saliva which would bring down the little "particles" and suddenly I'd be able to take a full breath, but somehow they come back up within 2 seconds. They seem to completely go away after having not eaten for hours upon end. (I had and still have these things that resemble tonsil stones but are probably small semidigested food particles that stick to my throat. I get barely any acid reflux it's a lot more like "Food reflux")
My symptoms are virtually nonexistent in the morning, and I'm assuming it is so because I have an empty stomach in the morning. It's clearly got to do with eating as whenever I eat and after I finish eating usually my throat gets sticky, breathing becomes hard and often I start getting heartburn.
I've just started sleeping with an elevated pillow, it helps but I still can't lie on my back without the breathing problem suddenly getting worse.
There have been times where I could not swallow or drink briefly.
Is this consistent with what you guys have been experiencing with GERD? Is this reflux or sounds like some other problem?
And can you choke to death via GERD during sleep?
I'm waiting on a potential endoscopy and more tests that will take place after I see my specialist next month in february.
I'm also very suspectible to weather right now- a walk in the cold triggered massive episodes of breathlessness later where I had to swallow and cough out tons of foul particles and acid. If I don't wear socks, the "Cold" seems to travel from the feet getting into contact with the cold floor and it immediately worsens my undiagnosed stomach condition.
I'm very thankful I found this place.. Just earlier today I had a scary attack out of the blue but I think it had something to do with me eating oily pork ribs, which I don't usually eat..I've been avoiding orange juice/Apple juice and apples/Milk/Cold Yogurt/Non water drinks/Spicy things for a long time now, to add to that.
