(Sorry for any spelling mistakes. I currently live in Norway and English is not my primary tongue)

So after a gastroscophy I was diagnosed with GERD after 3 months with nausea. I have always had problems with heartburn but I have never seen it as a "big problem" because it has never been so bad i haven't been able to sleep and so on. My doc prescribed Nexium and i am taking a 40mg pill everyday. After i started on Nexium the nausea became better and i haven't experienced hartburn since i started on the meds. But still the nausea is bad, almost every morning from 08:00 - 15:00 (school hours) the nausea is bad, and it is ruining my concentration.

I am frustrated by it, but i am also curious cause everyone with GERD says heartburning are they're primary problem.

I am able to drink alcohol, but of course my stomach pays for it the 3-4 next days. I have problems sleeping from home, and if i even think about girls I want to vomit. Its like my feelings settles in the stomach and i get ill.

I see some of you get zofran prescribed, as Zofran is mostly used in chemotherapy there is no WAY i am going to get this prescribed from my doctor. Does anyone have luck with other "anti-nausea" drugs?

And can anyone recognize my situation? Its like I have the GERD illness but I myself feel likes its not.. but it still bothers my very much!

One of the most popular antiemetics is Compazine .

I would ask your physician regarding  this med.

I think the problem with treating reflux with PPIs is that the PPI reduces acid but it does not stop the reflux. It's the reflux coming up that makes me feel sick.

Yhea, because I cant really understand what causing it. My own theory is that when im lying down (in the evening) the stomac fluid gets in the wrong place causing me to be sick every morning. Compazine looks quite scary (use to treat schizofrenia etc? Or is it only my google search gone wrong :P?)

How about food diets, eating little often and so on? Does anyone had any luck with this? Sorry if this is answered before.
I think my doctor wants me to try eating small portions often, and see what happens before he subscribes more drugs. I am also not any fan of using drugs on a regular basis, but..
It would be fine having some antiemetics to use when something important came up.. like a trip or something.

Does anyone of you have any luck at all with alcohol? Any hint or tricks? I know this is badbadbad, but this is last year of college and in Norway everyone becomes "russ" its a 22 days celebration and we wear special clothes and travel to different concerts and so on. And yhea... it sucks not being able to take a part in that.. (may sound very egocentric i know..)

On the otherhand i am VERY grateful for finding this forum, iv search the inet up and down for answers, and i may get them here. Thanks folks :)

If I do have a drink of alcohol I have gin and tonic, but even this increases my symptoms. I cannot tolerate anything else.

Tilt your bed (head up) about 10-15cm it will help the night time problem some. Compazine has many uses. I take phenagan for my nausea. It's an antihistimine.

Beer do work for my, anything like Wine, Vodka etc are BADBADBAD.
Do you use your nausea pills everyday? I would like some of those but i only want them for happenings and other things I badly want to attend!

I can drink beer on occasion just not too much. Actually, after a couple of drinks I tend to forget about my gerd/gastritis for a while! I am on zegerid everyday which also helps.

I tend to think that those of us with anxiety go through spurts of feeling well/unwell. Stress is a huge trigger for me and I also deal with anxiety issues. You mentioned being away from home and thinking about girls makes you feel sick. You sound like you have anxiety issues as well. I know nausea is my main symtpom and I also don't have the typical gerd issues, everyone is different you just have to find what works for you. It might be changing your diet, trying a new med and dealing with your stress. Best of Luck to you.

Most of using antinausea meds use them primarily after surgery. Some of the PPIs help with nausea too, but not for emergencies. Zofran is used in chemo, but it's for the nausea, not a chemo drug. Some of us have had to try different PPIs because they don't all affect us exactly the same. I personally have the best luck with Nexium.

How and when you take your Nexium is important. For most people it must be taken a half hour to an hour before eating. Some people need another one in the evening, but that's for really bad cases.

Keep a notebook to record when you take your medicine, what you eat and dring and the times!!! Also note your reactions, usually a half hour, an hour and 2 hours after eating. You may find certain foods are triggering your reflux. This is what happens to me. If I avoid those foods and drinks I can control my stomach's reactions.

Did this condition come on suddenly? Maybe after an accident or something that hurt your abdomen?

I'v always had some problems with hearthburn.. but not that bad! I thought everybody had heathburn and that this was common. I just turned 18th and went out,slept for 4 hours went for work and became sick, i went home and slept for 6-7 hours and i was healty again. I went out for a drink that night too and the next morning i was really sick and i was sick for 3-4 weeks with no apetite and nausea. (Gah i regret going out that night).

My doc took some test and conclused that a gastroscopy would be the right for me. The spesialist said that it was GERD, i got a subscription on Nexium. With a smile they said i had to find my own lines, and find out what worked for me..

But if i understands you right, it is the reflux that makes us feel naseaus? And the nexium can help against nausea because it lower the level of the stomach fluid? But in addition to this some of u are using antinausea meds in addition to the "Nexium" or whatever other PPI u are using?

I am so gratefull for all the answers, its so grate finally getting som answers from other with the symptoms..

Sometimes the nexium is all you need. sometimes you need both.
