Can Acid Reflux cause ear and throat pain?

Hi all I am new to this forum.  I have crohn's disease and am usually on their forum.  I do have GERD and have had it for years now.  about two days ago I started experiencing chest pain and burning.  Now I can't swallow and I feel like I have something constantly stuck in my throat.  I also have a dry cough.  My right side of my throat and right ear hurt badly and last night I had a temp of 100.3 which really is borderline.  My crohn's is also flaring so I don't know if I'm coming down with something or is it just a coincidence that I have heartburn and an throat and/or ear infection.  Anyone have any thoughts on the situation lol  Thank you.

sound like you need some antibiotics

Everything's hitting you at once. Go talk to your doctor about the ear pain. You might have refluxed high enough to get some in your Eustachian Tube and are infected now.

The pain I got from the reflux that affected my throat and ear was different than what you're describing...Joy may be right, this could be something else, but it needs to be looked at.

Thank you for your quick responses.  I have a doctors appt at 4:45 this afternoon.  I'll let you  know how it goes.

i have lpr and when i reflux bad my throat feels like i got a marble stuck in it right behind the voice box... and... AND.... the bottom of my nasal passages get inflamed and hurt like when i get the sore throat with the flu

then comes the high anxiety confused cry shakehead

Well went to the dr this afternoon and apparently I have herpagina which is basically a herpes virus.  It was explained to me that since the remicade basically wipes out your immune system whatever I came in contact with my body was not able to fight off so it settled in my throat.  Yay....only me i swear.  I did get a throat culture and it is not strip throat.  So I'm due for another remicade infusion on may 2nd and I was told not to do it.  Not good... my crohn's is flaring bad.  sad    Oh well just another uphill battle.

So...I know i started this topic with the Remicade not lasting the 6 weeks in between infusions.  Well now I go to my dr today b/c for the past two days I've been having massive heartburn to the point that I cannot swallow and it feels  like food is constatantly stuck in my throat.  Even water hurts to drink.  So today i look in my throat and there are these white patches all over my throat.  My son had strep throat last week so i said oh great now i have it.  Wrong!  Turns out thanks to the remicade wiping out my immune system i now have herpagina which i probably caught from my son and my body is not able to fight it off.  So now i'm not able to get my infusion next week.  GREAT  I'm flaring big time, now have this herpagina thingy and can't swallow to eat or drink.  What the heck am I supposed to do!?  Sucks sad

MY main reason for going to the doctor in the first place was what I thought was an ear infection. Many times my ear/sinuses felt congested but there wasn't ever an infection or fluid. When the doctor said it was from GERD I looked at her as if she had two heads...I had never heard of such a thing. Apparently it happens mostly at night and the acid rises up into the ear/sinuses.

bella...I'm so sorry, this just sounds lousy...I have nothing that could help you out; I'm sorry, but I'm feeling for you!...my immune system is shot, but I don't have to deal with the severity of arthritis that you're struggling with..
so....captain and coke, and hit the jacuzzi....yeah, that's the best I can do tonight!!!

Well went for a second oppinion today to see what the heck is going on with my esophagus and throat/ear and my gi doc says it could very well be the herpagina or it could be the crohn's coming up into my mouth.  Are u f-in serious?  So on friday I have the pleasure of having yet another edoscopy.  So still can't swallow and i'm in excrutiating pain.  I ate a banana and a potato today and had about 10 bm's.  Anyone jealous yet?  lol  I can't win in this life.  So i'll keep you posted and thanks for the suggestion on the rum and coke.  If i could trust me i would.  :)
