i commented about
hexylresorcinol posing similar questions, on a thread here at healingwell , maybe about
6 weeks ago. i had seen some reference on the internet , like you did, that hexylresorcinol neutralizes pepsin.
i queried several doctors and never didi get a satisfactory response. i did find that several readily available cough drops that have the words lemon and honey, all evidently manufactured by the same people for different retailers, have as an unlisted ingredient, hexylresorcinol. yes i know that doesnt make sense.
i even wrote the venerable dr kauffman an email but did not hear back on the issue. i believe halls and safeway brands were alleged to have the ingredient unlisted , but i read sucrets do too
i tried some and it seemed to help but i cant prove it was the hexylresorcinol that did it or was even for sure an ingredient.
i have been battling back from the edge with LPR and can recommend several very effective strategies
eat very small meals ( no more than the volume of food than what can fit in your cupped hands
no chocolate no cigarettes no alcohol... all three greatly weaken the les (lower esophageal sphincter).
eat very small meals
sleep with your bed inclined at least 10 inches at the head elevating bed or using a wedge...pillows alone dont work cause they induce a bend at your torso mid section that puts pressure on your stomach
eat very small meals
dont eat after 6 pm ,nothing, not even a nibble and never bend over or lay down flat after eating ( wait 2 hours)
eat small meals
avoid fatty foods, greasy foods and limit your consumption of meat, it takes longer to digest
loose weight if you are at all over weight...much research has shown this is a major factor in adult onset gerd and lpr
eat small meals
keep a record of foods that work for you an a record of foods that aggravate your reflux , there are significant differences between people on this.... check out the many lists to be found on the internet of safe and reflux prone foods and start with that,...testing each food, one at a time for yourself
avoid stuff in cans and jars ... eat only whole foods... chemicals and preservatives are very bad for gerd - lpr
eat small meals...i eat 5 tiny meals a day and have gone from inhaling my reflux several times a week to going 5 or six days without a major reflux event, ...and yes... i quit proton pump inhibitors
ppi s helped at first and im not against them, but get off of them if.,, or when,,, you can with doctors advice and consent
it took 6 months for me to improve substantially with lots of pain and fear, and a lump in my throat along the way
best of good luck to you!
