After having a difficult cough & sour/dry throat for several weeks, I've been online researching ways to treat my GERD. Admittedly I've been remiss in eating large meals and not giving myself time to digest before bed. Omeprazole has worked in the past (before the cough symptoms) This time it only worked for a week and a half. Everything I read says avoid acidic foods, but they've never triggered symptoms for me. Actually, coffee in the morning settles my stomach some what. I actually only have minor heartburn: a slight warmth/fullness at the stomach & esophagus junction. Its the acid in the throat that gets me at night. Anyway, I noticed that even 4 hours wasn't sufficient time before lying down when I ate things like pizza for dinner. It just sits in my stomach forever it seems. So, when I saw some links pointing to a lack of acid rather than too much, it led me to the enzyme topic. I bought Papein and Bromelain before realizing the carb connection. My question is, has anyone heard of Amylase as an enzyme that would target just the carbs being available by itself? I found it in many combined formulas and was wondering if anyone tried them or has seen this connection to foods other than acidic ones. I've read so many sad stories here! Not many seem to get advice from doctors other than the textbook advice to avoid acidic foods (which is what I got). My instinct is to always research 1st, then go to the Dr. with my assessment. They seem to appreciate it for the most part.
