Had a rough night and morning due to a huge pain increase. They upped the dosage in the PCA and I'm back to a tolerable pain level. Come on Monday!

Yikes, Bill, sorry for your rough night. I do hope they come up with some solution for you tomorrow that will put you back on track. I agree, weekends are terrible in hospitals, like being in a 48 hour holding pattern. It's almost Monday...

Denise, your cottage vacation sounds wonderful. You will be missed but I do hope you have a great time. I'm waiting to feel a little better before I head off on any vacation at all. Maybe by summers end. A girl can hope anyway.

Joy, I could barely home school my dd this past spring for the pain, I can't even imagine trying to take care of an entire class. I am so glad you are getting relief before school starts. We start back here using K12 in 2 weeks. After 14 years of home schooling I decided I could use a little help.

Yes I am working with a new surgeon. The surgeon who did my lung surgery was who I wanted to fix this, but our local hospital isn't equipped to do an esophagectomy. So he called around and found someone who is very good and willing to take my case. So I'm in Peoria now. all the nurses tell me he is very good also. Unfortunately he was booked all last week and had to go out of town this weekend, so I have to wait until tomorrow.

As much as I really don't want to go through the pain again, I hope he decides to go in and either redo the repair or replace that section and get it over with. That would get rid of my barretts at the same time.

Hello all,  I am here and doing good today................no chocolate shakes = no reflux 

I will post more tomorrow and I thank you all for your help today.  I hope things go smoothly now but I will continue to take one problem at a time and do the best I can. Thanks Denise for your help.

Well the tests were changed this morning. Did another barium swallow and 2 ct scans. He said he is going to compare today's to the other 2 sets and see if there are any changes and make a decision after that. So I got back to my room about 1:30pm and saw him about 2pm, but I don't know if he has any cases this afternoon or not. Probably won't know anything until tomorrow and I figure tomorrow he will want the manometry done to eliminate or confirm any function problems before he decides what to do.
On the brighter side..... my trigliserydes(sp) have come down and my blood sugar has stayed steady around 100, so no insulin this time and the only problem they found while ruling out heart problems was high trigliserydes(sp). Now I have a different problem and it makes no sense to me. My BP is normally 120 or 130 over 60s or 70s since I got under 200lbs in Early February. But while at Iowa City and here it goes as high as 170's over 120's and won't get lower than 150's over minimum 100. I can't figure it out. They had me take some bp meds at Iowa City and I was using them still when I was healing at home and had to stop them because my bp was too low. Can there really be such a thing as whitecoatitis? I must have it.

Joy- glad to hear you are getting some relief now. Next week is August? Where has this year gone....oh yeah I've spending it in the hospitals! LOL!

I'll continue to be on as much as possible while we babysit our wee one and pack for our long awaited trip! I'll miss all of you! If we go to a hot spot with our laptop while we're there I'll try to hop on the forum for a minute or two and see what's happening. It looks as if everything is pretty smooth going today. Thanks to you and Bill!

Isn't this just the best forum? I've hopped on a few others, and many just aren't as active and affirming as our little corner of the internet! We have a cozy little home right here.

You've struggled long and hard, and your positive attitude has carried you through. Don't let go of that. Don't let your mind take you into a dark place where you let the negative take over. Push it away whenever it comes close! Keeping positive is what's getting you through.

This will get better, man! It'll happen! It just takes the right surgeon/docs to figure out what is really causing your problems. Hang in there. You've got lots of friends here who are with you in spirit, praying for you.

I'll be thinking of you next week when you start school. I think it's a blessing for you that it's a four day week and you'll have three days to recoup. Too bad it's not the best thing for the kids, but hopefully they'll keep reading over the weekend and won't lose too much.

Sorry to hear that the news isn't all good.. I will pray that you will get all of this taken care of and get straightened out pronto.. I know that the idea of all of that happening quickly is a dream, but dreams are what life is made of... dreams and wishes and prayers... Dreams do come true.. I wish you health above all else.. I do not know what else to say...
I read that you are a fan of Country music and play the guitar ;-) grin.. I firmly believe that without music, life would be a mistake...

It is so good to hear from you again, but I'm sad that you're still struggling so. Good grief. You and Bill ought to share a room. The two of you don't deserve all the trouble you're having...

Are you going to have to continue the sad-inducing cancer drug indefinitely? I sure hope not! You don't need another thing to bring you down. You need to be able to see the sunshine and look for the bright side, just to get through all this.

I hope you get that pain under control and don't have to go back to the hospital.
I'm with you in spirit, and sending you prayers of healing.

Janice, so good to hear from you. I too am so sorry you are in so much pain. I'm sorry, but that nurse needs a good.......Lets just call out the herd! I was so hoping you were done with surgeries. seems as though it never ends. Hope you are resting now.

Denise-They are about out of ideas as too why I am in so much pain. If they don't get answers from the manometry and EGD tomorrow I'm not sure what's next. At least my white count has come down. It's between 11 and 12 now so they don't think it's an infection. The GI doc did say it might be scar tissue causing problems along with the hole reopening. He said he could see calsification by where the hole was. I figure I'm in here and been here for a week......at least fix my nissen and hiatal hernia!
another night of no sleep I can tell already. So far I average about 1.5 to 2 hours of sleep a day. Can't sleep too long or I get behind on my PCA.
