Why do I burp everything I eat or drink? I also have acid reflux at times

I think i may have the silent GERD

but why do we burp?

Are burps harmless? are they bad,? do they damage the throat?

My symptoms are always burping sometimes acid reflux and sore throats....

Can anyone give some more insight on burping why it happens? should it happen? is it bad to burp alot, what does it mean if i burp alot

I will not take medicine so please dont reccommend....I tried it for 3 years never worked for me, i mean never none,I tried them alll

Currentlty taking

Multi VItamins

Burps are just air bubbles that was trapped in your stomach being released.
The air bubbles are developed by two different ways...
one way is due to the high acid in our throats we are always swallowing saliva to wash it down. During this process we swallow air too.
The other way is from the processing of food in our stomach, mainly sweet or bready foods (and some gas producing veggies).

It's safe, but annoying.

Thanks Joy, sorry I cannot tell whether you are a guy or woman. Anyways thanks....just trying to understand how exactly the stomach works.

Anyone knows why do we burp a lot? Has anyone burp all the time?

before I switched to a PPI that worked for me, my burps were very "wet". It seemed like I was burping up .5 of an ounce of stomach contents every time I burped after a meal, so in that case those burps were harmful as they compounded my LPR problems. Now when I burp, it is mostly just air.

Nickles, I'm a girl, Joy is my first name. Couchtater is what my mother used to call me when I was little becaused I loved watching TV instead of going outside to play.

Yes, if your burps are wet then that's acid. Dry burps are air bubbles.

I also burp a lot, expecially in the morning. I burp after eating anything, or drinking plain water. Usually my burps are dry, but occasionally they are followed by brief heartburn. I didn't have much heartburn until after I stopped Prilosec, which didn't seem to be helping. The heartburn is getting less, I stopped the Prilosec on June 1. Burping is my major symptom, but I saw my doctor for the first time in February for chest pain, and I developed stomach pain in March. I continued to have some chest pain on Prilosec, though not as bad, but I also changed my eating habits significantly. I see a gastroenterologist for the first time this Friday, July 8. My primary MD says I have GERD, also gastritis. I'm wondering if my stomach isn't emptying, based on something I read here, because I have the most symptoms in the morning.

Glad you've joined our forum! Sounds like you're in the right place.

Your first post stated that PPI's/medications didn't work for you, yet you just said that your burping issues started after quitting the Prilosec. Perhaps it worked partially? It made you somewhat better, but didn't do the whole job?

I'm glad you've got an appointment with your GI doc. Do you have the head of your bed elevated? It's possible that your mornings are worse because all night the reflux has been migrating into your esophagus. If you raise the head of your bed 7-8 inches, it helps gravity keep your stomach acid where it belongs.

Hi Denise,
I had the burping before I started Prilosec, it has been my most consistent symptom. I didn't have heartburn until after I stopped Prilosec. Yes, I have the head of my bed elevated with a wedge. I also don't eat anything after 6:00 p.m. I eat carefully, avoid most fat, eat lots of fruits, yogurt, salads, lean sodium and chemical-free meats from the deli.
