For those of you in the Wrap Club...

I have read that after a Nissen, vomiting is either very difficult or impossible (except in cases of alcohol poisoning). Can anyone with a wrap please share? I'm very curious as I am thinking of pitching the idea of a Nissen to my doctor. Thank you in advance :)

In 18 months since my surgery I've thrown up 3 times due to stomach bugs. One time was a six hour marathon virus. :P
My wrap is still intact. I had the partial wrap (270 degrees).

It is still advisable to not throw up because there is a chance of tearing stitches, but you can if you have too.
The doctor will give you anti-nausea medicine to prevent it.

I havent had any type of operation yet, Im waiting for the doc to phone me for some tests but for next year I must be operated, no matter what!

I feel you man. I am full after just a few bites, but my mind is still hungry, and anything I eat makes me feel bloated. I've lost 30 pounds and counting. Don't really know what to do. My doc put me on Nexium 40mg/day for 6 months, but if I lose another 10 lbs (putting me in the 'normal' range) I'm going back to demand to see a GI doc. I can't deal with this anymore - I'm only 26.

I was told by my surgeon that I wouldn't be able to burp or vomit as I had a full wrap. That said, I've done both. The burping started in the hospital--small burps that let themselves out.

The vomiting happened when I had bug, and without a bit of notice, I vomited. I didn't know until then if I'd be able to. I was told that it would work it's way out the back door if necessary. Also, I was warned that if I were to get food poisoning I should go to the ER to have my stomach pumped.

I was told (by my fine friends at this forum) to be sure to get anti-nausea scripts right away when I had my surgery, and to bring them with me always. That I do. The only reason I threw up was that I had no warning at all. Once I did, I took anti-nausea meds to stop further episodes.

I'm glad to hear you're getting wrapped. There's no need to go on living with the kind of pain and discomfort you're experiencing.

I can burp just fine, but can not vomit. I have a prescription for phenegren to stop nausea. I usually have a couple in both our family vehicles just in case. I carried a few with me in a small pill holder for the 1st 6 months after surgery.

Halloweenbabg, you have to think positively. You're getting a wrap! Some of us are still on the PPI road of hell.

GERD does affect your quality of life, ad it can change you as a person. Just look forward to getting your old self back after next week!

Glad I was wrong. Sorry to hear what happened during a dilation. I am in the hospital now due to an upper scope gone wrong. I remember the nights of not sleeping and days on end afraid to eat. This is probably a goofy question, but have you tried malox chewable ant acids? They worked for me to soak up some of the acid. Not chalky like tums and such. They almost remind me of big sour tarts, just not sour. Did I read somewhere you have a surgery date?

Halloweenbaby, I'm not a medical professional, but could you perhaps be a little depressed? You haven't seemed much more optimistic since you four out about your wrap, which is (probably) the light at the end of your tunnel.

I'm glad you joined us, and hope that in some small way we have helped you. I am sorry that you have been offended, but we are a group who support and share, and there are many people coming from many different perspectives. I am certain that nobody intended to insult or offend you.

There are many people with which to communicate here, and of course there may be a comment that pushes a button or two. While moderators try to keep everything positive and supportive, unfortunately, we're all human, and in our attempts to support and inform others, we may say something that is offensive. When an apology is offered, it's certainly your prerogative to accept or reject it. I have no doubt that it was offered in good faith.

That said, I think it would be a shame for you to turn your back this very supportive and informative forum at a time when it could be extremely helpful to you. This is a place where your pain is understood, but we do attempt to encourage our friends to look at the bright side of things, rather than dwell in the negative. We've been there, believe me.
