i used a major name brand supplement that had 400 mg of slippery elm bark powder in a caplet...i made a slurry out of it (mixed with a shot glass of warm water) and threw it back against the throat like a shot of whiskey, and let it dribble down the esophagus
yes it helped somewhat, like any other demulcent...as does marshmallow, DGL , and honey and ,
if you can get it prescribed, (if your doc thinks it appropriate) consider sucralfate! (carafate, etc)
but please do get the discoloration of your phlegm checked out

btw, it takes way longer than a couple of weeks on PPIs to heal the very vulnerable tissue at the back of the throat, and esp the vocal chords, and or soft palate etc if these structures are involved
if you are burning way up high sounds like you may have LPR (aka silent gerd) which takes longer to heal...sometimes several months
stick with the medication and eat many small meals each day...remembering water counts as part of the total volume of a meal so drink sparingly with each meal, and pump water after you have digested the previous meal, waiting for the water to pass before eating again
are you sleeping with you bed elevated 6 to 8 inches at the head....the entire bed must be inclined...extra pillows are counter productive...healing...or damage...at night can make or break your recuperation
best wishes....hang in there
