July 4 I started having some upper chest pains that moved all over my chest, and after a few days went to the ER. I had an EKG and chest X-ray which both came back normal, they told me I was fine, they weren't sure what it was but probably just acid reflux and to take it easy. I noticed I was burping a lot, so I got prevacid 24 hour and took it for 14 days, it seemed to help a little bit but the pain never went away. After that I went to my doctor, and she said it sounded like GERD and prescribed me prevacid for 2 months. Now here's why I'm concerned...
I've been taking it for over 2 weeks now, and I'm still having chest pains, no matter what I eat. Like right now, for example, I haven't eaten breakfast yet but I'm having some chest pains in the esophagus area. And I've been watching my diet like crazy, I have a list of things to avoid and I won't have anything on it. My doctor put me on it for 2 months because she said it can take a while to have any real effect, so is this normal to still be having pains? They definitely occur less often but it isn't any less bothersome.
I've also started getting sharp pains around the bottom of my rib cage, they last only 30 seconds-1 minute and range from the middle where it
opens up to either side, wrapping around a little bit to my back, and it's just one spot at a time. Could that just be really bad gas? This only started about
5 days ago, and I have had very bad gas pains below my rib cage and a lot of trouble going to the bathroom since then. I've never had gas pains that high up before though, which is why I'm not so sure.
This whole ordeal has turned me into an anxious hypochondriac; every pain I have I look up online which just makes me think I have everything wrong with me, and I'm always worried it's something serious and I'm dying. I've already called my doctor because the prevacid made me VERY nauseous when I first started taking it, so I don't want to keep bugging her with every little thing that pops into my head. I'm only 20 and on my summer break, I shouldn't have to deal with this! Please help me out!
