Jamie Koufman research in LPR and GERD is the leading edge in the field.

The book is excellent and the reference should be a sticky on this forum.

SK, thanks so much! The standard GERD diet has not helped me, but this one has some different twists. I have placed my order for this book.  Kitt, can this become a sticky?  I sure do wish I had known about it sooner.  There are SOOO many useless GERD diet books out there, I didn't know there was a good one.

I have added a post under the resources in our forum for Books and listed the book there.

It is actually listed under Books on this HealingWell site.  If you look at the top of the page you will see "Books" in the gray strip.  You can always click on that and check out books. When browsing for books, you can type in the name of the book and HW will find it for you if you know the name of the book.

regular gerd diet didn't work for me and I have been better the past few weeks eating much WORSE than I usually eat. Looking forward to reviews of this book to see if it really helps and if so I'll pick one up myself and give it a go.

I think this ties in with the chat on the above thread about low acid diet (that is a diet with a low acid content, so no foods with a low pH)........

@ mudmagnetmom - great link. I am prepared to try that diet actually...I don't have LPR, just GERD, but am thinking it must work in both cases...

Do you know of anyone who had luck with it? have you tried it?

ARM, No I haven't tried it. My diet is already wheat, dairy and egg free and we have to accommodate feeding the mudmagnets themselves! Having said that, there seems to be slightly better info around on the pH of foods these days - I found it hard to get past the acid/alkaline pseudo science stuff when searching previously. We have no "fast food", everything is cooked from basic ingredients with very little coming from tins. I have tried being tomato free and gluten free in addition to my regular restrictions, but that made no difference to my gastritis and reflux symptoms.

I did find a few months ago that the filtered water was bothering me; I measured the pH of the tap water here and it is neutral or slightly alkaline and becomes alkaline when boiled. But the jug filter makes it quite acidic with a pH of 5. My symptoms were improved when I stopped drinking that, which leads me to wonder if a more alkaline diet would help. I need to work out if there's anything I'm eating that has a low pH. My symptoms fluctuate a lot, which makes me suspect triggers, but in 18 months I haven't pinpointed any . . . OMG 18 months . . That's so depressing!!

What a great idea. I'd enjoy being a part - ordered the book 2day. It marinated in my mind through the day and I checked out their website, and decided to go ahead. If the induction diet allowed almonds and whey protein it really would be similar to what I am eating now, so I will cut that stuff out and give it a shot.

Here's another link with pH values of foods. Interesting that coconut milk and aloe vera are both slightly alkaline - maybe that's part of the reason why they are soothing.

NB: If you are doing any internet searches on this subject, avoid "data" on foods which are "acid-forming" or "alkaline forming" as they are not referring to the actual pH of the food as it arrives in your stomach. And it is debatable whether they are referring to anything scientific at all, but the Internet is awash with it!

Wow, two recruits already! I do wish I could find out the pH of almonds, I've been eating them a lot also. The Voice Institute of New York site describes aloe vera as a "superfood". Funny thing is, someone two weeks ago offered me a whole box of aloe vera plants, and I turned them down! I do have one plant, though, and I'm sure you can purchase the juice.

@ sunbeam48, the website for the book has a q and a section where they have answered a number of specific questions. Kaufman explicitly says almonds, almond butter, etc., is a no go on a reflux diet. She didn't mention the PH and said it was simply due to the fat content.

ARM, thanks so much for directing me to that Q & A section - I just read it all. There is a wealth of info on that site, and I have been working my way through it. Since I believe I have LPR, it is very comforting and informative to read so much about it. Info elsewhere is very thin.
