I've had GERD for around 11 years now, since I was 10, and I'm long past the point of learning how to deal with the symptoms. I'm on the max dose of protonix, and take tums during flare-ups. I haven't had a significant problem with in about 8 years, when I finally found that protonix worked the best.
Recently, however, I've noticed a strange new symptom. I've heard of some people feeling like they constantly have something in their throat...well, I'm now experiencing this, for about a month now. I am constantly nauseated because of it, and nothing will make the nausea go away. It doesn't get better or worse when I eat, but it does keep me from having much of an appetite. I'm stuck clearing my throat or swallowing every 10 seconds to try to get rid of it, but it's still there.
I've started taking more tums daily, and that seems to help somewhat, but it doesn't get rid of the problem. I've also tried cutting out ALL foods that could possibly exacerbate GERD, and that still doesn't help. I'm really at a loss here. I can't handle being nauseated this often; it's really starting to affect my health, since I'm skipping meals just because I can't force myself to eat through the nausea. I'm going to schedule an appointment with my doctor next week, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has suffered through this particular symptom before, and what, if anything, helps.
Any insight to this would be a great help.
