anyone get relief with prilosec?

I never got any relief from ranitidine and when I took Prilosec, I was also taking Nexium at nite. I eventually went on 2 of 40 mg nexium a day for about 8 months it helped and then I started throwing up at nite again.. I had ok results from PPI's for over a 11-12 year time frame. I never had problems with side effects just .. they worked for a while and then I needed something stronger?? different??? something..
2 a day may help.. can't hurt to give it a try..

I was on Nexium @ one point, 80mg twice a day, and it did absolutely nothing for me. I was 90% better off this summer when I was on digestive enzymes and Align. I'd go weeks without symptoms.

Weird thing is in the past 1 nexium a day took away all my symptoms (for about 1.5 years). I am so frustrated. I just don't understand my body. I am following the Kaufman diet now except for whey protein and glutamine...I have no idea if they are bad on the diet. If I don't get relief I'll have to go strict on it and cut those two things out I guess.

Have you had surgery? Do you know, from your experience on the forum, if a lot of people struggle with symtoms despite medication, do not get surgery, and still avoid getting Barret's?

By far the worst part of my reflux is psychological, and despite good weeks here and there I always come back to thinking I am going to get Barret's and eventually cancer from my reflux. If I can half-manage on pills I still get worried that all the symptoms are indeed acid, and as such I'll get Barret's in short order...

I hate being pessimistic about it but I have a very hard time escaping that idea. So just curious what your experience has been on the forum...for me, I used to think people got reflux and it went away 100% on meds...so if you got it while on a PPI you were still in a lot of trouble if you didn't get the surgery. Am I just crazy? Thanks :)

I know that, and know that I get continually stuck up on this issue of Barret's progressing more than most people do. But I have read it is a risk of .5% per year. If I were 50 I think I'd take it in stride a bit more, thinking that I may have another 30 years, so the total risk is 15%. And if I die at 50 it'll suck, but it isn't like I died at 20. But I am 28 now, and would be so worried of having Barret's and living with the constant stress of it maybe progressing. I know the odds are in my favor, but still...its my life on the line and I would be really worried that within a few years it would progress simply due to bad luck (for some it never progresses, for others it does, and for some it does early). It is just extremely uncomfortable for me to think about...but I know I think about it way more than most (maybe even more than those who already have confirmed Barretts :)

Prilosec:
There are millions of people successfully taking these medications (including prilosec OTC - which is one of the top selling drugs in the US). Some of us are unfortunate that these meds don't work or stop working. Some of us are unfortunate that these meds work but give terrible side effects (yours truly).

Barretts:
I'd like to know the odds of getting Barretts in people who have GERD and who are not taking the meds (that is not treating GERD using traditional approaches). Conversely, I do know of someone who was taking the PPIs successfully to manage the symptoms but still was diagnosed with barretts recently. So, barretts may have multiple causes - genetics being another one of those wild cards.
