Sometimes when i sing, i get this weird hollow feeling in my upper chest, by my sternum. When i put my hand on my chest, it goes away, but if i take my hand off, it comes back. i read somewhere that heartburn can give you a hollow feeling, but this isnt after eating or anything! i have no idea what it happening! Any ideas?

Search the archives and you will find discussions of a "weird feeling" by the sternum or in the abdomen. I have the same thing at different times for several years. Mine comes from not watching my diet and when my stomach is empty and I am hungry. TIF surgery and carafate for two months have greatly reduced mine. Good luck.

Your esophagus might just be irritated from heartburn, and you further irritate it by singing. That esophagus pain does seem to be experienced in many different ways by different people. One of my early symptoms was that I could not continue singing through my two-hour chorus rehearsals.

My guess is that it might be "air". I feel that way when I've tried to sing with the congregation during church after my NF and when I talk on the phone or just talk for too long. I think for me it's swallowed air.

I usually end up burping and it helps.
