Has anyone noticed that their reflux gets worse when constipated? I've had real problems with constipation these past few weeks and my chest feels like a ball of fire!!! If I remember correctly, I had huge problems with the constipation just before getting the reflux .....don't understand why I'm having problems though I drink loads of water, I exercise, have a good diet and still can't get regular. If anyone has had the same problems, I would be grateful for solution.

how do i say this delicately...um, yes but the connection is right away..i mean the extra pelvic pressure when im trying to eliminate seems to bring on an immediate episode of lpr-reflux

maybe im imagining this..cause i have no proof or study to back this up...just personal experience

sit ups do the same thing to me even when i do them on my bed which is inclined so much i slide down every night!

not fun stuff is it

Hey there Loz,

I have both IBS and GERD.  I have not noticed that the GERD is worse when when constipated.  I was dx with IBS 11 years ago but I know I had GERD sx before this time.

I just can't get my bowels to behave at the mo, It's so painful and I've tried changing diet, extra water, laxatives, suppositories etc etc and nothing works. Any Ideas??????

Just thought I'd share my findings with you all. Bicarb 1tsp with a glass of warm water will shift the most stubborn of constipation !!! I have found the only thing that helps me and it was sitting in the food cupboard all this time.

A lot of the meds for GERD can cause constipation.

Have you tried Myralax? It is basically tasteless and my daughter was using this for several years because when she was a preteen she had an hour buss ride to and from school and she would hold it on the way home and when she got home she didn't have the urge anymore. Our family doctor recommended this and it worked great for her. Once we got her going regularly we kept her on it at low dose to keep her bowels active.

Hey all, I know that a major side effect of PPI's can be constipation.

Try upping your fiber intake a bit with veggies like broccoli. No straining!
