Hey All,

I just came back from visit with my ENT on Friday. I have been on a double dose of PPI's since early August and he told me that my throat looks perfect and that I have no visible signs of reflux anymore. In addition, he also told me he is okay with me getting off the meds. For now, I cut my dose in half and plan on staying on meds for another few weeks or so. I'm worried I will start refluxing again and was wondering if there any early warning symptoms of LPR? Back in July, I started heavily clearing my throat and coughing but not sure how long damage was going on prior to this happening. Is there any way to know you are refluxing from LPR before it is too late?

I dont know of any other way of knowing outside of just feeling it. That is great that your throat is looking good. I would say if it doesnt hurt, than dont worry about it. With such a quick recovery it makes me wonder if you didnt just have something like allergies to begin with. Even my ENT admits that LPR is way over diagnosed. Good luck!

P.S. When I stopped taking PPIs (cold turkey) I really did get much acid rebound, so you might not have to take the single dose PPIs for weeks. Actually, the wost I ever felt was on single dose PPIs for whatever reason.

Hey Chuck,

I've been tested for allergies but I don't seem to have any. However, when I said this to my ENT he said "you may not be allergic to smoke, but that doesn't mean your eyes won't get irritated if I blow it at you." So that's an interesting possibility.

Did you feel better once you stopped PPI's all together?

The PPIs worked great for me as far as the throat went, but after taking them for 6 months i developed lower abdominal pains. Off the PPIs my throat is managable, but the ENT says its still swollen. Abdominal pains are my biggest issue right now.
