Ok all, this test has little to no help on the web. I need some advice as I am in a panic about my testing.

My monitor continually reads Hi and sometimes goes down but nothing ever lower the 8.9 and thats when i am having no symtoms. I am having severe heart burn and lots of regurgitation but my recorder thing always Hi. I called the clinic and asked them if the monitor was working properly and they say the capsule may have become unattached but to continue to push the buttons as symtoms occur.

I always thought the lower the numbers the worse the acid level is and high numbers indicaded no acid. What is true and is mine normal to constantly read Hi?

Please help!!!!

Mine showed high numbers all the time, too. I'm thinking the high means the acid is coming up all the time to the capsule. That means a weak LES that's leaking a lot of acid.

So is this a good indicator that i will need surgery or that i can not have surgery?

If the 8.9 is the pH then it is slightly alkaline. Seven is neutral and below is acid. A pH below 4 in the esophagus is considered severe reflux. Saliva is slightly basic with a pH over 7. I had the pH test with the wires and I had severe reflux (pH below 4.) My reflux with pH below 4 was only 6% of the time.

It sounds like the unit may have detached and gotten into the small intestine. The stomach would read 0 - 1. If you had acid reflux and it was attached properly it would read below 4.

My unit detached after only 1 day, and I almost had to have it re-done, but the surgeon said I didn't really need the test because I had a large paraesophageal hernia (stomach stuck permanently in chest) and didn't need the test anyway.

They can take a quick x-ray and see where the thing is.

I have a feeling mine dislogged because the monitor kept going off last night when it was inches away from me on the bed. Now this morning it went off and won't reset. It just continues to read C1. I'm guess since my clinic isn't open today and when I called worried there may be a problem yesterday they just brushed me off and said to keep going with it. I can still feel it and maybe a little more then I could yesterday too. I hope I don't have complications with capsule being stuck now!

If you are seriously concerned you could go to an ER and ask for an x-ray. The thing will show up nicely. It helps keep from being brushed off if you use some key words like severe chest pain, shortness of breath, maybe being unable to swallow - but tell the truth.

The thing isn't supposed to fall off for a week. If mine hadn't fallen off by itself I was planning on going to an ER to have it removed, because the clinic had told me they wouldn't remove it. Mine hurt so bad I couldn't eat anything, could barely swallow a little water, the entire day it was on. But I've got a polio throat.
