The drugs you've on stop stomach acid production. This will give temporarily relief of your GERD symptoms, but often times cause even more problems, and a return of GERD symptoms. Read my other posts on this forum and you'll understand better. In short, in the beginning stages of GERD, for most people, stomach acid isn't your problem, its stomach acid in your esophagus that is the problem. It usually gets in to your esophagus due to gas on top of a very full stomach. A full stomach after a light meal is caused by low stomach acidity, food doesn't get digested or transported out of the stomach. The gas, which pushes what stomach acid you do have past your LES in to your esophagus, is caused by fermenting food, often in part caused by bad bacteria in your small intestine and stomach. The goal is proper digestion and getting rid of the bad bacteria (or candida).
I recommend you read the book "Why Stomach Acid Is Good for You: Natural Relief from Heartburn, Indigestion, Reflux and GERD" by Jonathan V. Wright, $11 on Amazon.
The program I suggest is partially based off of this book, other books such as Digestive Wellness, other research and trial / error. Its simple, cheap, and works for a lot of people (you're buying any brand products from anywhere you wish, I make nothing off of this).
Here is what I took (you can search for these on Amazon or Vitacost, etc):
$11 Vitacost Probiotic 10-20 - 20 Billion CFU - I took two, twice per day, between meals
$14 Jarrow Saccharomyces (yeast based probiotic) - I took 1, twice per day, between meals (with above)
$14 Nutribiotic - Gse Liquid Concentrate, 4 fl oz liquid (grapefruit seed extract) - I followed the bottle instructions on dose and took once per day. For maintenance I take it twice / week
$17 Now Foods Candida Clear Formula, Veg-capsules, 180-Count - I followed the bottle instructions
$12 Super Enzymes 180 Tablets - I take one with every meal and one with protein / fiber containing snacks. Large protein / fiber containing meals I take two. You may have to do this for life if your stomach doesn't completely heal. But believe me, its worth it!
$0 a no sugar, low carb diet for 2 weeks
$?? a good multivitamin, good nutrition, and perhaps other nutrients will be needed to treat long term malnutrition caused by poor digestion. You won't know this for several weeks.
