Hi Donna,Really, it's unbelievable what the surgeons tell people. I tried to pin my surgeon down as to when most of his patients are eating bread and steak, and he said around 8 weeks. At least that's a little more realistic.
It is individual, though. Most people try to be very careful with activity level--especially lifting for at least 6 weeks. Some of us are even more conservative, waiting more like 6 months! Better safe than sorry! Most activities are fine long before that, but heavy lifting always needs to be watched...I'm talking HEAVY.
Have you tried to get the antinausea script from your surgeon? I was able to get one from him and one from my PCP. I would recommend the suppository version of the Compazine generic you're taking. That way you're not putting it into your stomach. Save the pills for later when you need something to carry with you. My surgeon prescribed Zofran in a version that was just melted under the tongue.
I had a bad stomach bug about 2 years into my recovery, and I found the Compazine suppository was the best.
Your PCP is unrealistic. What if you come down with a stomach bug? Mine came on without warning. I wasn't even nauseous until I actually vomited. Fortunately, I had the anti nausea drugs with me.
Don't take no for an answer.
Good luck!
