Hi all-

Yes it was mainly internet problem keeping me away. Also have had issues with BP and had a scare that the hole opened up again. Been dealing with tons of stomach and chest pain that felt really close to what I had when my esophagus tore. Couldn't eat or drink for a few days because it hurt to do so. Had tons of testing again and thankfully the hole is still closed. Having another manometry the 28th to see if there is a problem with motility.

As for the BP issues..... I have passed out twice in the last month. Once in my bedroom doorway and once in the bathroom. Lucky for me we have a raised seat on the toilet for my uncle. It saved me from hitting my head on the toilet. Strange to wake up to your son standing over you yelling DAD! Anyway, they thought it was the dose of serequel I was taking since I have lost weight, but it happened when I wasn't taking it the 2nd time. So they switched my BP meds and so far so good. It's only been a week though.

Looks like no deer for this year. The ribs just aren't playing nice at all.

Joy, sorry to hear about your cousin. Congrats on the new edition to the family though.

Kitt- I need to do more back reading, but sounds as if your friends had a nasty accident. Hope the hubby's stress test comes back good.

I am off to do more reading and get caught up. Be back soon.

I hope they straighten out your blood pressure quickly.
I know what it's like to pass out and wake up with people yelling at you. I did it once when I was 5 yrs old. Mama said it did it a lot as a baby. I'd get hurt or mad and just stop breathing. My first episode was when I was 6 weeks old. Thank goodness that stopped!

I just found out the other day my pulomologist and rheumy are watching me for "Shrinking Lung Syndrome". My lungs are smaller than normal. :O
Hopefully my small lungs are something I was born with.

I hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas Season and a very happy New Year!

I haven't heard of shrinking lung syndrome before. Doesn't sounds nice either. I'm hoping it is something you were born with too.

Kitt- Thanks for the bump. I did manage to open my eyes enough to see it just before you posted. LoL!

Oh, I forgot to mention I saw a new GI doc yesterday. He is at the office where my other one is, but he just got there in June. He was at Iowa City training while I was there for the esophagus tear. He knows all of the doctors I had very well. He specializes in esophagus issues. I asked about still getting an EGD every year to check the barretts an he told me to wait ever 3 years. As long as my wrap is working he said the barretts shouldn't advance. This made me very happy since having an EGD now scares me to death.

Hi Bill!

Glad you're back, but sorry to hear you're struggling with more pain.  I also fainted maybe three or four years back.  We were out to eat, and I went outside to get some air...didn't work.  I was flat on my back in front of the door.  Anytime I sat up I was out again.  Ended up in the ER for several hours, but they never figured out what caused it.

Well, those deer can heave a sigh of relief!  Sorry you didn't get to go hunting...I know how much you love it.

Hey Bill,

Our friends are doing well and are in a transitional care unit. They will have to be there for about a month as they cannot go home with the injuries they have.  He fracture 14 ribs ( 12 on one side) and she has fractured vertbrae and fractured sternum so it will be a long time healing.

My hubby's stress test outcome was mild to moderate cardiomyopathy which scares the beejeebers out of me but we will be OK.

By the way he did get a small buck so we have only one deer in the freezer this year.

I hope they have your BP meds sorted out now as it is not good to pass out...................I am sorry to hear things have been tough and I have kept you in my prayers suspecting you may have hit some bumps in the road.

Joy,  Well I will have to look up shrinking lung syndrome but I suspect I know what they are saying.  I wish I could have shrinking butt syndrome  smhair oh my -  I am in a good mood today so had to throw that out there.  Giggle. 

It is Christmas Eve, Eve today so I best do some work but wanted to spend some time here with all of you.

I am planning on sticking around, for sure. I missed you all very much. Nothing worse than Healing Well withdrawls! Yea those darn deer are safe this year. Well unless one decides to try and play chicken with me in the car. The right fender is already banged up from a deer last year, so why not.

Kitt- I couldn't imagine having 14 broken ribs. The 3 that are loose right now are bad enough.

Oh, another thing I forgot (seeing a pattern here? LOL!) My new GI doc told me with all the problems I've had I should write a novel or at least write a blog about it. I told him about this sight and he was glad there is a site like this for us to go and help each other out.

Anyone got snow? It's supposed to be 40 here for Christmas and 50 for new years. We have had about a 1/2 inch so far and it lasted about an hour.

I have been getting in a lot of guitar playing the last few weeks and found for some reason the acoustic vibrations from the guitar helps ease the rib pains I have. Gives me an excuse to practice more!

Hi Bill,

No snow here along the NY side of Lake Ontario.  I love snow, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that at least we'll get a little!  Last year at this time we already had 48 inches.  Strange weather, indeed.  I'm originally from Syracuse, NY, which is the snow capital of the country.  Last year they had 179 inches!

Keep playing that guitar!

Lake Ontario is warm and unfrozen...lake effect snow is a certainty, and that can be amazing.  Accumulations in the feet, rather than inches!

Kitt-

I have had such strange BP problems ever since the surgery in March. It goes way up and then will go way down. After my redo in August they said it was very low and they were pushing 2 IVs and it still wouldn't come up. I only have 2 memories during the first 30 hours after that surgery. One was when they said I was going back into surgery and the other was when they told me to slide over to the table. Michelle said I talked to her and my daughter for a couple hours after the initial surgery, but I don't remember any of it.

As for the little buck.... I like them better. Easier to get out of the woods and are tender right away! Those big rutted up bucks can be tough and gamy. Something to do with them not eating during the rut. They loose most of their body fat from not eating and running around like idiots. Remind me of drunk teenagers watching them chase does.

Bill, my mom gave me a recipe for venison. I'll never use it but I'd like to pass it on to you and the others.
*make slices in the meat and place onion slices and a strips of bacon in each cut.

She said it made the best venison she ever ate.

our weather , like yours and denise's has been "too good"

(denise...i lived along the south shore of lake ontario for many years...geneva ny and a small town called clockville and later utica ny...small world, very cold winters and huge snow-fall

here in the pac north west it has been strangely very very dry

yes we will pay for this come january or later

regarding your understandable concerns about EGD... the doctors encouraging words about barretts surveillance only requiring scoping every three years since the wrap is good...

im wondering if their is a trans nasal endoscopic alternative to EGD

im getting the same message about my barretts...scope every three years...hmmm....every three years..., i like the sound of every two years a whole lot better

It's good to be back.

I am not sure if the nasal scope is long enough to reach the barretts or not. Can they take biopsies with that scope? If they can that would seem to be a better option since I believe it is smaller in diameter. My new GI do told me he would not scope me unless it was absolutely necessary because of the tear and it reopening after it was thought to be healed.

I also told him about none of the docs who did the surgery for the tear seeing me when I was flown back to that hospital when it reopened. He looked really confused and told me everyone of them were still there then, but were just in a different department. He also said they new team should have had them see me as a consult since they were involved with my surgery and after care. He didn't seem to happy to hear they kept me there for 4 days and sent me home without fixing the problem. He was also in awe that they were planning on removing my esophagus 2 different times.

I like that you answered in a positive way. I believe it is big help in getting through these tough trials in life. Hang in there my friend and lets hope for some better treatments in the very near future. My niece has Lupus too and I have seen how tough it is for her to get by day to day.

Good Morning All,

No snow in the Twin Cities area either so it was a brown Christmas -  I missed that fluffy white stuff.  devil I cannot believe I just wrote that !!

May get up to 50 degrees near here today on the 26th day of December..............WHAT ?

Bill,  I started on a low dose of Ritalin to see if it would get me going and pep me up a bit .  I am feeling a bit tense but at least I am moving and getting some things done here at home.

Trouble is the dose may need adjusting as I feel a bit over-stimulated.

I need that happy medium.  smhair

OK,  I will be back,  I need to go and reside the house before hubby gets home at noon.  Giggle............chuckle.

I too have been having some problems getting motivated lately. I have an appointment 1/24 with the P doc, but I am going to see if I can get in sooner.

I love the "Kitt wit" makes me giggle.

Been incredibly nauseous the last 2 days. The Phenergen isn't even helping and been dry heaving some. Only been able to eat a few pieces of dry toast the last couple days. hopefully they figure something out Thursday when I have the manometry done.

I had a good holiday and I hope that you all did also.

DENISE, I had Christmas with my Granddaughter and then my Great-granddaughter courtesy of Skype... I had my son that moved to VA and his girlfriend and my Grandson and his girlfriend and my cousins from KY and my husband and me for Christmas dinner. We had a great day. I am sure you and your precious Boy had a good day also.. my uncle does Santa and he Skyped with my Abby on Christmas Eve and she went yo-yo.. she couldn't believe Santa was talking to her on video chat.. it was a once in a life time event.. a great memory.... I wish you peace, health and happiness in the New Year...

KITT, I do hope that you and Hubby have made some great memories to carry on throughout the New Year...I have missed talking to you all, just haven't had the energy. I am feeling much better though.. hopefully the trend will continue... Wishing you and Hubby health, happiness and prosperity in the New Year...

BILL, I am especially happy to hear from you.. I am so sorry you have had the problems that have plagued you recently. I also am sorry that you didn't get out into the woods chasing after Bambi and his Brothers and Sisters this year. But, you have to look at it this way, Bambi will have time to start the re population for you next year and the year after and the year after... I wish for you and your family health, happiness and prosperity in the New Year...

Well, I got everything done in time for Christmas Eve and Christmas and am enjoying the lull before New Year's Eve and Day!  There was a while there that I didn't think I'd make it, but I did!  Yay!

What's the deal with the weather?  I love snow in winter, and look forward to some white stuff heading our way.  Not much predicted, but I do believe we'll be getting it sooner or later.  I hope you and your family had a nice holiday celebration together!

We did have a wonderful Christmas with our little grandson.  At 13 months he's too little to really know what's going on, but he definitely has enjoyed the decorations.  I think he'll be very disappointed when we take them all down.  His mommy and daddy gave us some very cute pictures of him as a gift.  Now I need to decide where to hang them!  Glad to hear you had a nice Christmas and are feeling a little more energetic these days.

Well, it is a small world, and generally a very snowy one in winter.  I've never heard of Clockville, but am very familiar with Seneca Falls (It's a Wonderful Life!) and Utica.  I lived in Central New York all my life and only moved to Western New York when my sons settled here.  I like it a lot, though.  What ever brought you to the Pac NW?  Are you near the coast?  Do you get a lot of snow there?  I had a friend whose husband was in the park police and lived in the high desert of Oregon.

clockville is the tiniest of hamlets, in the highlands overlooking lake oneida

what brought me to the pacific northwest? marriage, and ...ah yes, the snows of up-state new york...lived the first half of my life battling those ka ka ka ka cold winters

i now live half way between the southern tip of puget sound and a 14,000 foot mountain named mt rainier (national park...just beautiful)...the climate where i live is very temperate...rarely above 80F in the summer and rarely below freezing in the winter... but, lots of rainy days.... except sometimes we go 2 or 3 months without rain in the summer, august is absolutely idyllic,...strange place

i miss the gorgeous hard wood forests of the north east and the autumn colors

Denise, we had snow for Christmas for the first time in 80 years last Christmas. Usually the weather is rather mild this time. It's 47 degrees today. For me it's light sweater weather with my low body temperture (96.8). Others want their heaviest coats and hats.

We've had such warm spells lately that the azaleas have bloomed twice!

This weather is strange...I guess we're supposed to get a little snow this week.  There are plenty of people up here who hate the snow, but I'm not one of them.  Bring it on!

How nice to have azaleas blooming again...a special Christmas gift!  I hope you're relaxing and enjoying your time off.

My friend who lived in Oregon also missed the hardwoods and fall colors.  I have cousins who live in Mendocino, California, and they chose it for just the reasons you've mentioned.

Hi all-

Well made it through the manometry this morning. That makes 4 so far. I must be getting used to them because I didn't double swallow at all. Fastest manometry I have had.

Sandi- Good to hear yo are getting some energy back. My wife reminded me that there is still 2 weeks of bow season left and she wants a deer. So guess I will have to switch to my son's bow and hit the woods.

Hi Bill,
Glad to hear your manometry went well. Did you get any results yet? I suspect after a Nissen we all have some swallowing quirks. When I had one last fall they made note of some abnormal activity where the esophagus meets the wrap, but they said it was typical for post-Nissen.

Good luck with your hunting. Don't go doing anything to hurt yourself!
