pain in lower part of right ribs

I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. I've had it for a couple of years now, but lately it's gone from a feeling of pressure to a feeling of 'rawness' and low level pain. It's been pretty much non-stop and it's been taking a toll.

I'd just like to know if anyone has had a similar problem and what the cause might be.

Grace,

Gall Bladder Disease comes to mind so please do get a medical screeing exam from your Dr. to assess your pain.

Hey Cindy and Skitt,

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm in the process of getting more tests (motility), and I just had a barium swallow come back normal. In terms of the gall bladder issue, I had an ultrasound as well as a CT about a year and a half ago and both came back normal. Nobody seems concerned about my gall bladder but I have wondered. There is a family history. I'm 40 now and both my mum and grandmother had gallstones at about my age. On the other hand, the other side of the family has no history of these problems.

I do feel like my GI specialist is competent and not ignoring my problems but I am feeling a bit concerned that something may be being overlooked. Is there another test I should be asking for in your opinion?

Grace, I couldn't do the motility test which I found out might have been the most important test before going into surgery. I am just so grateful that everything turned out okay. I am happy that you have taken that step to see a specialist. Good luck. I can tell you now that I am happy I did the surgery. The mere fact that you are so persistent with your doctors tells me that you will get your answers.

Hey Grace,

A follow-up ultrasound is coming to mind, that wouldn't hurt at all, especially since you're still having problems.

I know this sounds pushy, but I'm also dealing with an NHS and I think sometimes it doesn't hurt to let your doctor know that you're not willing to live in pain. It is your life, and he may be getting caught up in seeing too many patients per day and it is possible that he is unintentionally not taking you seriously enough.

I sometimes have pain on the right side of the ribcage. My GI did an ultrasound and endoscopy, and everything came back normal. The pain comes and goes. I have noticed that I feel it after I take metamucil. I have read that gas can give upper abdominal pain.
