Less expensive digestive enzymes?

I'm taking Nutri West digestive enzymes but this brand is very expensive. I was wondering if anyone here can recommend a brand that works well and isn't so expensive? The Nutri West supplements that I'm taking cost me 25 to 35 dollars per bottle and I'm taking 4 different ones that my doctor recommended.

You did not say how many caps were in a bottle ? Source Naturals DigestActiv, 240 capsules ( 5 stars per customer surveys) are available through Amazon.com for $18.99.

Source Naturals Essential Enzymes 500mg Vegetarian Capsules 120 count ( also 5 stars ) $8.23 from Amazon. 

I am sure you can find something comparable in the pharmacy of Walmart, Walgrens, Target etc.

Thanks for responding, Kitt. The ones that I take have either 60 or 90 per bottle....depending on the supplement. The ones you have suggested definitely are a better deal! Right now I'm taking Natures Bounty probiotic from Wal-Greens. I just want to make sure I take good quality supplements that work well. There are so many to choose from!

Hi outdoorsgirl if you want to take a good probiotic, make sure it's enteric coated. The word Enteric refers to the small intenstine, so when a product is enteric coated, it means that it is meant to be absorbed in the small intestine and not in the acid produced by the stomach during the digestive process. You want your probiotic to work in your intestines.

Any plant base enzyme with hydrochloric acid will work great for you.

Thanks Cindy. No one has ever mentioned to me that I should use an enteric coated probiotic. I just tried to find the coated kind at walgreens but they didn't have it. Guess I will look for it online.

Outdoorsgirl...you need to go to a health food store. I think the best probiotics are the ones that need to be refrigerated. I have never bought the powder or the ones off the shelf. I am currently using one by New Roots named "Acidophilus Ultra"..Look it up online. It's great for gas, bloatedness, building immune system, keeping your intestines clean, good for yeast, constipation, diarrhea...it's also good for people with lactose intolerance.

I used "Bio-K" yogurt also when I had my nissen surgery....that one is superior to all others, however, it's very expensive...it cost about 40.00 for 15 of them. There is a hundred billion live bacteria in one yogurt. This one is good for people coming out of surgery. I used it for a month and then went to the New Roots.

New Roots also have a good plant base enzyme...which is fairly cheap. I am not sure where you live. If you live in Canada, it's easy to find.

Cindy, I have to refrigerate the probiotic that I take but I still think I need one that's better. The one I use is Natures Bounty but I don't think it's helping that much. I can order the brand you suggested, online. So you have seen a difference in how you feel?

Outdoorsgirl I have definitely seen a huge improvement. I take 2 capsules a day and because it's enteric coated, it last longer. I also take a plant base enzyme if I am having a heavy meal.

I have a sister that lives in Yonkers and she buys the same probiotics when she comes to Canada. She used to constipate a lot but not anymore. Did you look it up. Please do your research before purchasing it. Go to new roots website to checkout the different types of probiotics they have.

Hi outdoorsgirl I read the article...very interesting....the only thing I can add is that I have taken Ultimate Multi Probiotic which are not enteric coated and found very little relief with gas particularly, however, since taking the New Roots enteric coated, I found a huge difference. I have very little gas.

I don't know what to tell you. What do you think?

I don't know. Just know that I want whats best for my stomach. I believe you when you say it's done wonders for you. I just haven't been able to find any other customer reviews regarding the product. If I certainly don't mind spending the money if it works!

Hi how about contacting new roots directly. Their head office is in Montreal. My sister contacted them directly. They have a toll free number. I can try and look it up for you if you are interested. You would be able to speak to a live agent who knows about the product. I havent gotten rid of my gas completely but I contribute that to eating three fruits a day, lots of raw veggies, yogurt, cottage cheese and blue berries. I eat whole wheat rice also hence the gas. I am contemplating getting some food allergies testing done to see if there is a problem.

Outdoorsgirl let me know if you need help contacting new roots. Don't rush into buying anything as yet. Do your research.

Another member, Lanab, found relief using a probiotic drink called Proviva. The drink means the "good bugs" reach the stomach, unlike other probiotics which are intended to exert their effects when they reach the intestine. I'm currently trying Yakult as Proviva is not available in the UK. If you search the forum for "proviva" you can pick up Lanab's thread on this.

How do you think Yakult is doing for you? you getting better or see no change by taking it?
