Has any had their tonsils removed and have their throat problems stop?

Someone mentioned that removing the tonsils can get rid of throat pain
associated with acid reflux.

Does anyone know if this is true?

Good Morning,

I had my tonsils out when I was 13 years old and did not develop GERD until I was in my forties. The tonsilectomy was for repeated sore throats and it did help with that.

I had my tonsils removed when I was 31. Didn't change anything with my GERD. Have had it since I was about 17/18. It did hurt like all get out though. My daughter had hers out 10 days before I did and she was up and playing ball in 6 days. I was a complete different story. Solid 2 to 3 weeks of pain and a 2am trip to the doctors office to stop bleeding on the 8th day.

I had mine out last year, I was 27. My GI said it might help my symptoms also. There wasn't a change. It was the worst surgery I've had out of 7 recovery wise. Awful.

Had my tonsils and adenoids taken out when I was 13 (1998 I think?) but it was because it was believed the blocking of my Eustachian tubes were causing my hearing loss in my right ear. After the surgery I stopped getting sick but my hearing loss remained.

Was diagnosed with GERD in college (2004 or 2005, I can't remember exactly when) and LPR formally last month. Getting a Nissen Fundiplocation scheduled soon.

EDIT: Out of curiosity, any possible connections between LPR and hearing loss?
