GERD/Gastitis please help so worried

Hello,

Any kind of help would be so appreciated.

I have been having intermitent upper chest pains since the end of November 2011, and have had the ekg test and chest x-ray and bloods done all came back clear.

But since January the pain has been around a lot more, in my chest osophagus/sternum not sure what that area is called, I have had night sweats in January (but I am periomenopausal) so not sure if they have anything to do with my issues, Sometimes at night I wake up with a fright and my heart is going really fast, also the pain is worse at night when I lay down on either side it feel like a knot in the middle of my breast bone, during the day the pain is there but does not worry me as much as it does at night.

The doctor put me on Lansoprazole 4 weeks ago and things are no better should they be working by now?

Iwent backt to  doctors last Friday and was given another prescription for more Lansoprazole?

I lost my mum to a heart attack out of the blue last summer and do not know if I am suffering with anxiety that could be making things worse?

It does sound like anxiety but it may also have to do with gerd/per-menopause. I have been dealing with it for at least two years now and I am 49. The anxiety is a big issues as is the gerd right now but I have heard other women say that heart palpitations are a pretty big symptom of peri.


To be on the safe side I would definitely go back to the doctor and ask for more tests if you are worried about your heart. You may need more than and EKG to be certain that it is not your heart but a lot of GERD symptoms can mimic heart attack symptoms so it is best to be sure. Best of Luck to you!

Thanks for your reply, it's the chest pain that is constantly worrying me, i was in hairdressers today and all of a sudden felt quite panicky and as though I was not in control, the problem is I do not think I have any worries or reasons to be panicky or stressed can all this be in my head?

I worry the mid chest pain is more to be concerened about rather than Gastritis as the meds are not working one month down the line?

What a coincidence, I was getting my hair done today too! I always feel anxious going there for some reason, the close quarters and if you have any anxiety issues at all this may be problematic. For some reason GERD and panic can be related. I am not sure what sets one off first. I think the GERD makes you feel the pain and then you panic thinking it may be a heart attack.
I was in the supermarket once and had the oddest chest pain ever and afterwards I realized it was trapped gas when I basically belched. Not very feminine i know..I also have gastritis like you do and it does sound like your pain is gerd/gastritis related. Sometimes you have to try different meds, what works well for one person may not for another so you may want to talk to your doctor about this.

Thanks for the reply wink   strange how life runs along smoothly then for no reason you feel like you have always been in pain mad is the sternum a popular place ford gerd pain?
