Constant need to burp/yawn and shortness of breath

So I had a pretty bad case of heartburn the other night while I was at a bar. Drank a lot of liquor/beer the night before and I felt just fine the next morning but it hit me around 5pm. Didn't consume any kind of alcohol while at the bar but had around 6 glasses of water in a 3 hour time frame. Water didn't help much so I drank a glass of milk and that helped instantly. 5 minutes later I started burping constantly and started to panic a little bit but was able to calm myself down pretty quickly.

The next day I woke up with shortness of breath, tight chest, and constant need to yawn/burp. The burping wasn't nearly as bad as the night before. I decided to go to the gym to try and sweat it out. Did just fine, ran 2 miles in 17 minutes, moderate pace. Felt fine the rest of the day but was still having the same symptoms.

I'm not sure what's causing this and I've already ruled out asthma. I've been putting my body under a lot of stress at the gym, just jumped back in after taking a 3 week break. Just got back from the gym once again I felt fine while I was there, still had the symptoms there. I'm not in any kind of pain at all, this is just getting annoying.

I'm a 26 male, 5"11 185lbs, in pretty good shape. I do smoke but I've cut down drinking to around 2 times a week. If someone knows or heard of symptoms like this it would help out a lot. I'm currently registered to the VA Health department but its going to be another week before I can see a doctor.

Had you had GERD or Heartburn before all this started? Or are all these symptoms completely new?

Does your symptoms come and go or are they constant?

Also, what are your symptoms....burning feeling, chest tightness, stomach aches, throat irritation?

First thing that comes to mind is a hiatal hernia caused by improper lifting at the gym. This may have displaced things internally causing the LES valve to remain open.

Contributing factors could be a weakening of the LES valve from smoking and alcohol. If the LES is open, then acid producing foods will generate more symptoms, like coffee or high fat foods that are hard to digest. Since you're young, the lining of the esophagus is probably in good shape, so you wouldn't feel much pain from acid exposure, but perhaps just chest tightness. Over the long term the lining could erode through and you'd start to feel sharper heartburn pain.

The yawning is probably a sign that you are not getting deep sleep at night, possibly due to the low level heartburn pain or stress. Not enough to wake you up, but enough to keep the sleep from being fully restful.

Other thought would be lactose intolerance since you mentioned drinking milk and then getting a lot of burping.

Those are just guesses based on your description. They'll have to run some tests to see what's really going on.

Hi ..Waiting to hear what the doctor said...I do not drink or smoke ...I think mine are associated with eating too many chillies about 5 days back and still having 2 coffee's a day..but have absolutley the same symptoms as your's....

kindly do let us know the doctor's diagnosis.
