IBS and NIssan & what can you never eat again

I have Gerd with aspriation to lungs which has caused many tiny nodule spots in lungs

Dr. is almost insisting Nissan surgery

My Gastro said it will make my IBS even worse and that won't be able to be treated.   I have terrible IBS pain that lasts for long periods of time.  Told me to loose 20 lbs

Surgeon told me to eat 4 meals 4 times a day no bigger than my wrist for 6 weeks....which is tiny

For 3 weeks I have done that and went from 135.8 to 123.6, so that diet is working.

I take 2 Nexium a day and worry about the long term problems and the cost when my husband retires and we switch insurance.

Trying to weigh the pros  and cons

Is there any foods that you will never be able to eat ever after the Nissan surgery.  If I have to deprive myself after surgery I may as well not have surgery and deprive and occasionly have a piece of birthday cake or a diet coke.

Ended up in hospital for 4 days because of aspiration temperature 104.9....pretty much out of my head,don't remember much of first 2 days. Pulmonary doc afraid it will keep happening and told me I could die.

But now I am on a strict gerd free diet, my aspiration and gerd problems has become a lot better.

Bought a temperpedic ergo bed so I can sleep raised up.

I have to make up my mind soon and I'm just so confused about the long term affects of surgery or long term effects if I can't keep up this diet.

Sorry so long, want to be clear so you can give me your opinion.

IF my IBS gets worse after surgery I don't know if I can handle it.  I can eat a small bit and my upper abdomen swells up like a balloon and hurts

Like you, I had severe lung issues caused by my reflux.  My PCP and asthma docs were very emphatic regarding the necessity for having the surgery.  I don't have IBS, so I can't speak to that issue.

I can tell you that gas issues are common in the beginning of healing, but unless the wrap has been made too tight, this resolves as you heal.  I was able to burp a little, or I should say that my stomach could release gas via the wrap.  I never had the horrible bloating that some have reported.

There is really nothing I can't eat now, and I was able to eat pretty much anything by four months.  You'll always want to eat more slowly and chew thoroughly, even when fully healed, because your wrap is tighter than your LES.

I have a reactive stomach, so there are things I drink sparingly--coffee and wine.  I have no trouble drinking beer.  It's not really because of my wrap that I avoid these things.  They can irritate my stomach.

Good luck with your decision!  In my case, I didn't know if the surgery would solve my lung issues, but I had to try. I really didn't have a choice, as my PCP said my lungs condition was "life-threatening".  Thankfully it did the trick.
