Upcoming Surgery

Hi all, so glad to have found a site with some positive information about having the fundoplication. I am scheduled for surgery on April 30th in Boston. Have had GERD for more years then I care to count, progressively getting worse, now time for surgery. Hopefully this will bring some relief. The info on this site has been tremendously helpful as I was going to cancel my surgery after reading other sites with some seriously negative experiences. But now I feel at least more knowledgeable about what to expect. My question now is this. I am scheduled on the 30th. I have a trip to Disneyworld already planned and paid for with my family in June. At that time I will be exactly 7 weeks postop. Do you think that is enough time to take a trip like that. I have never had a negative experience with surgery and usually heal pretty well so I am not anticipating any complications with this surgery. Just not sure if 7 weeks is enough time. If I postpone I will have to wait until July and with my symptoms of pain, burning, lump in throat, cannot sleep through the night, living on three different meds to quiet it down, it doesn't seem like postponing is an option. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Jesper is closer to the recovery than I am, as I am now 3 years post op.  I think he's provided some great advice.  You might check with your surgeon regarding rides at all, as I believe that G-force can create problems.  I'm not sure where I've read it...maybe here for all I know.  I'm no expert there, so check it out yourself.  As Jesper said, you'll not likely to be up for any wild rides anyway.  Stick with Small World and Pirates of the Caribbean!

I am postop day 13, switching from liquids to soft foods. So far it has only been so-so. I had a problem with what I ate last night (mashed potatoes and broiled fish), terrible chest pain but it finally subsided. I had pasta with white sauce today for lunch and have not had a problem. I am being very cautious with my eating so we shall see. Regarding my surgeon, when I posed the question about being 7 weeks postop and going away to Disneyworld, he said I should be fine and eating normally at that time and he told me to enjoy my trip. I will just make sure not to overindulge and I think things will be good.

Reading all the posts on the boards has truly made a difference. Learning from all the experience here. It really has not been as bad as I had expected so I am glad I went ahead and did it.
