1 cm histal hernia enough to allow reflux?

I was diagnosed via endoscopy with what the Dr called a small hiatal hernia of 1cm. I have read on the board here of people having much larger hernias, so I was curious if a relatively small 1cm hiatal hernia is enough to influence the anatomy to lead to reflux.

I am switching from that doctor, he really seems to think what I'm dealing with is not that bad and he doesn't offer much else.

My PCP has referred me to GI surgeons who will let me know if repairing the hernia will help me.
