Hi.
My GERD/LPR started about a year ago. Started with breathing problems and the feeling of an elephant sitting on my chest, pretty soon I had the constant throat clearing and mucus/phlegm and burning throat. I actually ended up in hospital when my EKG was running wild, I belive this was all from GERD, never had it since I started PPI´s. At first the doctors diagnosed me with severe astma and/or anxiety.... Well, they were wrong.
Had all the tests done, endoscopy twice, PH-test and manomentry. They showed a small hital hernia and reflux 15% in a 24 hour period.
So I had surgery in november at one of the top bariatric clinics in Scandinavia, two surgeons performed the Nissen, both of them specialists in GERD.
After surgery I´ve had all the common problems after Nissen, but the one that won´t go away is this thing with my throat. Even tough it has improved over time, I´m still worried it´s reflux.
That´s why I´m having all these tests done in next week, to find out. I know that healing can take up to a full year and at least 20 of weird symptoms that I´ve had has disappeard or lessen alot over time, so maybe this throat thing will go away in the end... Sure hope so.
So for all of you post-ops out there, here is a list for all the symptoms I´ve had after surgery:
Bloating, nausea, constipation, feeling of low blood-sugar, dysphagia, food getting stuck, heartburn that burns all the way out in my back, residue reflux right after surgery (burned in my mouth), ongoing trouble with my throat - pleghm, mucus, dry throat and so on, weird pressure in throat, not beeing able to burp, rumbling in chest, water brash in throat/mouth, burning in stomach, not beeing able to eat normal sized portions (still far from that) severe weight loss (30+ pounds) and so on...
Like I said earlier, most of it is gone by now... And some things will probably be forever, like small bites and chew, chew, chew. Don´t mind that at all as long as my throat are okay.
Did notice a big change when I was able to burp about 4 months out of surgery. It really took the pressure of things and I belive that some of my throat issues has been connected to the fact that I (still) can´t burp properly. I can burp some, but that´s like one burp every third day.
So my tip to all of you, use your GAS-X pills and pamper your stomach for months afterwards.
