Hi, I just had my scope and the Dr. said I had inflamed esophagus and to come back in a month. I am currently taking tecta 40mg and he said to bump it up to twice a day and to take it before breakfast and again before supper....well I was a bit loopy at the time so didn't think to clarify...I eat breakfast at 7am..no problem...but I eat supper at 4pm (i know so very early for most) and a light snack at 6...4 seems a little early for the second pill if its purpose would be to reduce stomach acid overnight...opinions?...I am thinking maybe before my 6 snack would be better...or I could try and reverse to that I snack at 4 and eat at 6...do you think the time matters as much as before the meal.

I dont think the time matters, some people who take just one might have it in morning, others at night. Whatever works. I imagine with two doses that spacing is important, why not try swopping your snack/supper like you say? If you are worried check with your doc though.

Thank you for responding...thats sort of what I was thinking that every 12 hours (or thereabouts) would be best...

Hello and welcome.  I am not familiar with Tecta as it seems to be prescribed in Canada but perhaps equal to Protonix in USA.   I did a quick search and the only thing that caught me eye is your dose (40mg Twice daily) seems higher than the recommended dosages.  You may want to look into that.  Again I have no personal info on this med.

I thought it seemed high as well and I'm not a real big person 5" 124 pounds...it was prescribed by a gastro guy not my Gp and I did clarify twice that he meant twice a day because I was loopy from the meds and I wanted to be sure...he gave me a prescription to fill...but it makes me wonder b/c the ones I'm taking currently he 'gave' to me (he has shelves full of boxes of it so it must be his 'go to' med...maybe the prescription is of a different dosage?.. It makes me a bit nervous that theres more to it then the inflamation..I did remember to ask if there were ulcers and he said no.
