Hi BC,I agree that surgeons should provide their patients with better information. My surgeon also set me free to use my own good judgement very early on. I was on liquids in the hospital, then soft foods until I saw my surgeon on Day 6. After that, (while emphasizing that I should stay away from untoasted bread, sandwiches, and steak) told me that I could eat "anything that could be chewed to a liquid" (Jesper's surgeon called it "mush").
That direction made my diet much more interesting than I thought it ever would be. I could eat VERY little because the swelling of my stomach mimiced fullness and I got full very quickly. Still, my nibbling could be very enjoyable, and I also went out to eat quite often and was able to find foods I could handle, even if it was just soup. I became my own blender, and rather than blending my foods and eating puree, I made my own puree! This freedom comes with responsibility, though, as one needs to be extremely careful to be aware of what he/she is eating.
That said, some have a lot of trouble with this protocol and have difficulty finding foods that work for them. That's when an eating protocol like the one you shared is extremely helpful! (http://www.upmc.com/HealthAtoZ/patienteducation/N/Pages/dietafternissenfundoplicationsurgery.aspx)
Thanks for sharing it!
Happy healing!
