Test for acid in airway, anyone had it?

I'm being sent for more tests, a repeat of 24H PH, and now this airways thing. Anyone had this, or know anything about it?

My throat and ears are so so painful all the time now, persisted for 6 months. It just burns and burns. I don't have any acid coming up while I am on the PPI, so what on earth is burning me like this? Still can't sing, get globus on a regular basis, dry sore throat all the time, and still no answers other than a weak LES. I am so scared and worried now. I can't believe my life has been like this now for 5 years. I'm pushing for more investigations and will be asking for another ENT referral, I just don't know where to turn any more.

I feel it's all just hopeless.

ZG, I am sorry that you are experiencing these troubling issues at the moment. I understand that level of fear that you are feeling right now, and I know that it is miserable. I am glad you are going to have more testing and also that you are looking for a new ENT.    Has your Dr. ever mentioned  cricopharyngeus spasm as the cause of your globus ?  Also do you have a GI Physician following with your problems as well as the ENT.  I suspect you can have silent GERD even if you are on a PPI if the medication is not working to control your symptoms.  Just my opinion.   I wish you the best, Kitt

Thanks for the reply. I've been posting here a couple of years or something like that but haven't for ages, because I've gotten so bad that I just couldn't even talk about it. The medical profession have been very unhelpful which has left me feeling very hopeless and isolated. This retesting is a result of my renewed fighting mission!

The ENT suspected silent reflux, but when he came to the end of his testing arsenal he discharged me and left me in the 'care' of the GI team, who said after many other tests that there was no evidence of reflux at all, just the weak LES and my anecdotal evidence. So they discharged me. I am scared to death now, 5 years in, wondering what the risks of cancer are from all this damage. I mentioned this to the GI and he said there is no link, but I know there is, I have researched it myself.

I am now awaiting these tests, have been waiting to hear since January with nothing as yet. Good old British NHS.

Hey there, I know you have been posting here for many years and I have responded to you in the past. I also understand that your medical system is different from ours here in USA.  It is good to know you are continuing to act as your own best advocate and that you are persuing further testing. 

I know you had a scope in January and that you were not pleased with the care at that time but I was so hoping that you had found someone that was willing to do further testing and now it looks like you have. 

It is great to be a part of a community of people who understand what you are going through, so I hope you will keep on talking with us.  We are here to help and support so feel free to vent away, ask questions, share or whatever will help you the most.

Thank You Kitt. I did wonder if you remembered me as you have been very helpful in the past. I hope someone can shed some light on this acid test, the GI said it's 'another miserable one' so I'm not feeling very brave lol!

I am going to guess that the test you are speaking of is the test for Pepsin - The Exhaled Breath Condensate pH is the one that will tell you how much pepsin you have in your airways according to another member here in the forum. 

I believe it is non-invasive but do talk with your Dr. or nurse re how this test is done if it is the one you are having. 

I hope someone who has had this test will be along shortly to help you out.  Take care and keep on talking with us.
