Hi hrpufnstuf,I have a heck of a time with coffee. When I was younger I'd make myself a pot in the morning and drink it all! Yikes. Over the years my stomach has gotten more and more sensitive. I guess it's not all that atypical, but it wasn't a problem in my family--my mother in her 70s could eat virtually anything. Go figure.
Anyway, now I save coffee for a very special occasion at a great restaurant with an extra wonderful dessert. It's not that the coffee causes GERD for me (I had a Nissen 3 years ago) but that it really messes with my stomach. I still love it, but made the switch to tea when my GERD got worse. For some reason tea doesn't bother me in the least. Actually, I remember my entire life finding tea something that settled my stomach when I had a bug.
Bottom line, if you can find an alternative beverage (at least ditch most of the caffeine if you can, because it relaxes the LES) it'll help you feel better.
Good luck. I hope you get feeling better soon!
