Hello all,
I also developed acid reflux, specifically LPR or Silent Reflux according to an ENT I saw in May this year, after taking Clindamycin antibiotics in March this year after surgery to remove a salivary gland.
On taking the first few tablets after the surgery I would get a burning in my chest afterwards until I noticed the pattern and decided to try them with food. This stopped the burning at the time but, in retrospect, I think the damage to my esophagus and larynx was already done. Since then, I have developed a chronic cough, hoarseness, feeling of a lump in my throat, bitter taste in my mouth, mucus feeling in throat, a feeling of bitterness at the back of my throat and a few weeks later, abdominal pain. I also suffer from dry mouth since the salivary gland infection so that doesn't help.
The ENT I saw in May told me to do a diary of which foods trigger me, but for me it was never about
food. This all started after the antibiotics. I took his advice anyway and kept a diary but nothing triggered me. So, he referred me to a gastroenterologist who I saw just a week ago and he has put me on Omeprazole 40mg in the morning and Zantac 300 mg at night. He has told me also to raise the head of my bed by 6-8 inches, eat smaller meals more often, avoid citrus, chocolate and tomato foods, caffeine and alcohol.
I know some people believe these medications don't help LPR but I am willing to try. If they don't help, I will then look at supplements and more holistic measures but I want to try one thing at a time so I know what works. Has anyone else here dealt with LPR successfully? I could really use the good news.
