This is not new. Do a google search on this site, you can find posts on Melatonin. Also people have lost interest in it because it either does not work or there is a (small) risk of triggering an autoimmune disorder. But the benefits of melatonin are well-researched. It is known to reduce inflammation in the gut.
I would like to share a method that I have used for quite some time now, and it helps to reduce my heartburn and the inflammation. It is safe because I do not take melatonin supplement. It is a way to boost melatonin production naturally. The method is
Switch off the lights 2hrs before you sleep, and do your things in complete darkness. If you can't, try wearing sunglasses, or use incandescent lighting instead of fluorescent. Absolutely no computer or TV during the 2hrs. I do my Yoga during this period.
This act will boost your body's melatonin production. In fact, in the old days, there is no lightbulb. People have a full 12 hours (in spring) of darkness. In modern times, this is reduced to mere 8 hours or even less. This may have contributed to the prevalence of gut diseases nowadays.
I tried and I have less hearburn and sleep better.
