Looking for relief!

Hello,
I am new to the forum and have been suffering with severe GERD and esophagus ulcers. I have been on PPI meds for a year and a half with little relief and daily headaches as a side effect. I recently stopped taking the PPIs meds and have tried different herbal remedies and OTC meds, which also give me headaches, with no relief. My doctor thinks the only solution is the nissen fundoplication surgery. I am in the process of getting a second opinion. It may very well be the only solution but I was wondering if anyone has had success with the stretta procedure, linx or esophyx. My life has been completely turned upside down from this problem. I can't eat or sleep and I feel very alone with this problem I don't know anyone else that has this problem like I do. I would love to hear your experiences and talk to people that can relate!

Hi Doggonecrazy,

Welcome to the Healing Well GERD forum! Glad you've joined us. Sorry you're dealing with so many problems. I can't give you any information about the stretta, LINX or esophyx, but I did have the Nissen surgery about three and a half years ago and am very glad I did. The Nissen surgery is still considered the "gold standard" for anti reflux surgery.

Good luck with your decision. I can tell you that I found incredible relief after the surgery, and would do it again in a heartbeat if it was necessary.

Thanks! That's good to hear you had good results from the surgery. Going on these forums can be good and bad at the same time there seems to more horror stories than good results. Thanks for the reply!

Hi Doggone,

Keep in mind that many, many people have the Nissen surgery who never post on the internet at all. They have the surgery, recover, and go on their merry way. It's the people who are having problems who are most likely to seek out information and support online.

Nissen fundoplication has been used to treat GERD for more than 50 years. it has been available laproscopically for between 10 and 15 years. It must be working for lots of people!
