tonytones,Hello and I am glad to see you have posted here for all the members to offer you support. I would lean toward following the Drs. advice and take the Prilosec for a month. If you are still having some symptoms even though they are mild I would give yourself a chance to heal before going off the Prilosec.
Many people have bouts of rebound pain on stopping Prilosec. Here are some friendly tips that may help you.
Drink lots of water. People have posted it seems to help.
I use antacids, usually when you can't tolerate the heartburn - my favorite is the fruit flavored Rolaids.
Apple Cider Vinegar does seem to help some people but I will admit that I choked on it.
Aloe Vera Juice also seems to help George's Aloe Vera Juice, which says they take out the substance that irritates the GI trac, may be a choice for you.
Finally, you really will have to watch what you eat, but that is probably a good thing in the long run. Carrots, apples, potatoes, grapes, fish, chicken breast, etc. are actually pretty good for GERD. Basically, anything that's is bland will be better. However, more than spicy food, I would avoid foods high in fat or fried foods.
I hope you do ok when you discontinue the Prilosec. Be well.
